Woody Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Would the person who said this on 1-3-08 be willing to stand up and admit it? jasd Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 How about being justified and sanctified by the 'work(s)' of others? The justification of Sodom... Ez 16:52 Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters. Job 1:5 And it was so, when the days of [their] feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings [according] to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. Quote
Planey Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I mean 1,000,000 CA points, for anyone who can find any adventist member, seriously believes they believe in justification by works.. ANYONE? Depends on who judges the contest. Let Robert give the casting vote and just about anyone here on CA would qualify. shermancox Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 LOL... I think that the key is that no one THINKS that they believe that. This reminds me of the preacher who rails against the people for "talking about people behind their backs." Sometimes you find that the people shouting "amen" the loudest are those who are most guilty of that particular problem... Stan Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 LOL... Sometimes you find that the people shouting "amen" the loudest are those who are most guilty of that particular problem... Often they are under conviction... One of the best sermons I heard on being faithful to a spouse, was done by a Pastor who was not. I spoke with him later, and he explained he could speak with passion on the subject, from his heart, because he knew first hand of the evil of it. shermancox Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I hear you...I was speaking of the congregational members rather than the pastor who is guilty of the offense...but your point is well taken in either case... Quote Sherman Haywood Cox IIhttp://www.sabbathpulpit.com"Celebrating the Synthesis"
LifeHiscost Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I mean 1,000,000 CA points, for anyone who can find and adventist member, seriously believes they believe in justification by works.. ANYONE? Does it count if one of Jesus' disciples gave the admission? Of course it is possible there are some on CA who will wrest these texts out of their place and preach some other gospel than that which was preached, in order to defend their own assurance, without including all of what the Lord of Glory has to say. "And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?" James 2:23-25 KJV "...and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS," and he was called the friend of God. You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?" James 2:23-25 NASB Emph theirs LHC "And [so] the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed in (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on) God, and this was accounted to him as righteousness (as conformity to God's will in thought and deed), and he was called God's friend. You see that a man is justified (pronounced righteous before God) through what he does and not alone through faith [through works of obedience as well as by what he believes]. So also with Rahab the harlot--was she not shown to be justified (pronounced righteous before God) by [good] deeds when she took in the scouts (spies) and sent them away by a different route?" James 2:23-25 AMP parenthesis brackets theirs LHC "And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?" James 2:23-25 NKJV "...and fulfilled was the Writing that is saying, `And Abraham did believe God, and it was reckoned to him -- to righteousness;' and, `Friend of God' he was called. Ye see, then, that out of works is man declared righteous, and not out of faith only; and in like manner also Rahab the harlot -- was she not out of works declared righteous, having received the messengers, and by another way having sent forth?" James 2:23-25 YLT BTW this is the only Scripture in the Bible where I know the word "faith" to be used with the word "alone" or "only", and it is used here to make the point that faith is not alone in identifying the pathway to being just before God. ...As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 2 Peter 3:16 KJV Regards!
