Moderators John317 Posted January 6, 2008 Moderators Posted January 6, 2008 Ya....I think it goes back a long ways to when we thought that SDA's were the only folk to go to heaven...yes, there was a time!... When did SDAs believe that that only SDAs would go to heaven? I have heard this claim made before, but I have not seen any evidence produced to show that it is true. Perhaps there have been times when individuals wrongly believed this, but the church has never had this viewpoint, nor have any of its spokespersons, or thought-leaders. I would be interested in knowing if you have evidence that the church or leaders in the church have believed or taught in the past that only SDAs will go to heaven. Regards, "John 3: 17" Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. nuff sed Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I think that there are some who would like to think that only Seventh-day Adventists would go to heaven, thus making us an elite class but I don't believe that there is evidence for this belief. We are a "remnant" of "God's church"..........Having said that, if you have faith in Mrs. White's writings you have to come to the following conclusions for which I am too lazy to go look up the references. 1. Those translated will be Sabbath-keepers. 2. They will also be Vegetarians. ( the quote is "they will have put off the eating of meat"... Let the brickbats fly................. Quote
David Koot Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 And both those items are without a doubt very true. In the end, the test brought to the entire world will be the Sabbath issue. The underlying issue is loyalty to God or loyalty to the beast. The specific which it focuses on will be Sabbath vs. Sunday. 'Putting off' or 'not be found' eating meat will be very important. The time of testing--the second time around for the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil for the human race, so to speak--which we will be going through will be excruciatingly difficult. The body affects the mind. What we eat affects how we do spiritually as well as mentally. Meat is unhealthy both physically and for the effects it has on the whole person. It needs to be discarded as part of the diet. Dave Quote

Woody Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 John317 ... perhaps you have misread what CoA said. No where do I see it said in the post that the church organization believed this. It was said that "we" believed this. Many times the church organization does not state a belief that many of the church believes. It may be that "most" of the "we" believe it but that does not mean that the church organization believes it. Most for instance may believe that WO is what God would have us to do. But that does not mean that the church in its political and cultural wisdom should or will recommend it. NOPE ... I checked it and the post does not say the SDA organization believed this. IT said WE ... see below ... Quote: Ya....I think it goes back a long ways to when we thought that SDA's were the only folk to go to heaven...yes, there was a time! I think comments like the following cause confusion on this very issue .... Quote: "Theose who keep the commandments of God will be in heaven." 1-3-08 "The conditions of salvation are today what they have always been, the keeping of the Commandments of God" 1-3-08 Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. [/quote'] As CoAspen has said, I think it goes back a long ways to when we thought that SDA's were the only folk to go to heaven. I know too many non adventists who are far more gentle and caring than the whole host of Adventists that I have met...And it has been an eye opener.... As to your last point: remember that (1) not all SDAs are even truly converted to Christ; (2) Satan especially attacks SDAs because he knows that SDAs make a high profession and that if he can get people to be disillusioned in SDAs, he can discourage them from accepting and proclaiming the Third Angels Message, which precedes the Second Coming. If anyone ever thought in the past that SDAs were the only folk to go to heaven, they were misinformed. People think that despite the fact that the church teaches just the opposite. Most people in heaven will be non-SDA and will never have heard of the Sabbath or the Investigative Judgment. I was brought up SDA and I never heard anyone teach or say that only SDA would go to heaven. I can understand, however, how someone could get that impression if they are not listening and reading carefully. I think some kids do get that impression from some of the wrong things adults say. To say that the SDA church is God's remnant church doesn't at all mean that SDAs think that SDAs are the only people to go to heaven. That is a misreading and misunderstanding of the significance of that term. The Jews did the same thing. Instead of seeing the term, "God's chosen people, " as a responsibility to share God the gospel with everyone, and to be a role model for the world to see what it means to know the truth about Him-- the Jews as a whole took it to mean they were superior to other people and should have nothing to do with them. That isn't what it meant at all; and neither should we take the phrase, "God's remnant church," to mean we have an advantage over others. It actually means SDAs have a greater responsibility than others to obey God because we have access to more truth about God. Whether we individually practice it and take advantage of that truth is another matter. It also means, as the Bible says, "Satan is angry at the remnant of her seed" and attacks her because he knows that if he can separate the remnant from Christ and from their mission, he can delay his own destruction and lead others to be destroyed along with himself when that event actually occurs. That's why I mentioned that some individuals think mistaken things such as the idea that only SDAs are going to heaven. I just wanted to know if the person who posted had information that led them to believe the church ever took this position or if they thought someone gave them reason to believe this. Regards. Moderators John317 Posted January 6, 2008 Moderators Posted January 6, 2008 ...Most for instance may believe that WO is what God would have us to do. But that does not mean that the church in its political and cultural wisdom should or will recommend it. There is probably no question that most SDAs in North American favor WO, but there also can be little doubt that the majority of SDAs throughout the world church oppose it, and this is reflected in the lopsided vote in the last two General Conferences against it. (As I've said before, I haven't completely made up my mind about this issue. I'm continuing to study the Bible about it.) Quote: "Theose who keep the commandments of God will be in heaven." 1-3-08 "The conditions of salvation are today what they have always been, the keeping of the Commandments of God" 1-3-08 You have to read more than just those lines. God holds people responsible for the "light" that they have. The greater the "light" of truth, the greater the responsibility. From those to whom much has been given, much is required. For instance, God doesn't hold a sincere, honest Catholic responsible for the knowledge of an informed SDA who is convicted by the Holy Spirit to keep the Sabbath commandment. God held the Jews to a higher standard than their neighbors because they had greater exposure to truth. Jesus said, "To him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin."
