Amelia Posted January 13, 2008 Author Posted January 13, 2008 It's my new possession Neil. I totalled my old Subaru just before Christmas. Neil D Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Is it the hybred or the regular Focus? What made you decide on the Focus rather than any other car? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Amelia Posted January 13, 2008 Author Posted January 13, 2008 Well I actually test drove several different cars. I did research on the net and Consumer Reports. It came down to what fit me, visability, and who was willing to haggle on the price. The other cars I was looking at were: Honda Fit This one fit me great. Had fantastic visability and barely any road noise. But the dealership wasn't willing to come down on the price at all. These cars are very sought after and for some reason dealerships don't bring in many of them. Scion XD I really loved this one. But since they hold their value over time and resell very quickly, I couldn't find a used automatic. Toyota Matrix This one had poor all around visability for me. And the seats didn't adjust enough for my comfort. Toyota Yaris This one I totally hated because all the gauges are on the center of the console; where the radio is on most other cars. It's called "European Style". Not something I was used to nor probably get used to so I didn't get it out of the lot. Hehehe A couple others I knew I wouldn't like as soon as I sat in them. The Focus I purchased was a dealership loaner car. It only has 16,000 miles on it and still has the new car smell. Very clean and only 2 things that need fixing. But those things are more cosmetic and don't need immediate attention. Though the dealership was very insistant that I get a "complete" car. I went all the way out to Canby Ford to find this baby. hehe I would urge anyone looking for a another car to head to the country. They are genuinely friendly and willing to help you get what you want. Oh and I wasn't nesscessarily going for a hatchback but I do need a sizable trunk for hauling work stuff. Also I needed a 4 door because I do have to drive my parents around at times and I didn't want them having to crawl into the backseat of a 2 door. They are too old for all that. Amelia Posted January 13, 2008 Author Posted January 13, 2008 Quote: Is it the hybred or the regular Focus? OOPS forgot to answer this one. It's a regular car. I could never afford a hybrid. Even used. puddles Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Neat car Amelia! For some odd reason, I have always referred to them as a "1 antenna cricket" because of the radio antenna in the middle of the top of the windshield. Cute car tho! What kind of mileage are you sposed to get with it? Quote

Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted January 14, 2008 Moderators Posted January 14, 2008 You really did your homework in buying this car! Don't let anybody ever tell you a woman can't be a successful automobile purchaser! I like the Ford Focus. I've driven them as rentals when on a trip. puddles Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Excellent mileage for a domestic (must be because it's missing one of it's antennas...lololol) Folks tease my husband and I about our "car lot" but we have what we have for a reason. A 1992 Mazda 626 (225k miles + and still using original clutch), a 1995 Toyota T-100 truck, single cab with 8' truckbed (well over 100k miles on it), a 2001 Honda CR-V, AWD (over 100k miles) and a 2002 Toyota Sienna minivan (another vehicle with over 100k on it). My husband adopted my mazda when we got married and I've rarely driven "The Puddle" (car was named after my cat, liked it so well I use it as my online persona). She is his baby and he drives her to work unless the weather is just too bad and he needs his truck (which has 4wd). I drive either the van AKA "the Chloemobile" (in good weather) or the CR-V AKA "Kirby" (mostly winter driving or if I'm not driving dh is). And we use the truck for any big hauling jobs or if we need 4wd. All but Chloe are paid for and she will be paid for this year. Enjoy your baby Amelia while you can, they grow up so fast!!! Quote
