cricket Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Why the emphasis on reaching one particular sex? No two humans are completely alike--no two men, no two women. Shouldn't the focus of the church be to reach ALL people--to find out what the needs are of ALL people and to try to meet those needs? I find it rather limiting to suggest that louder music and drums will bring more men into the church--or to focus on outdoor recreation and the like. There are many women who enjoy these things; and many men who do not. Wouldn't it be best to cease from labeling men and women as fitting one stereotype or another, and to concentrate instead on finding the best ways to reach all people? Quote
Woody Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Now someone is talking some sense. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
bonnie Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Cricket, I can't see as a denomination trying to reach anyone. I can't recall reading anything here that would give anyone a desire to listen to us as a denomination. We have this funny not to bright woman that tends to be fanatical much of the time and SDA's spend much time either subtly or not so subtly at times holding her up for ridicule. SDA's past and present(conservative) haven't a clue as to the plan of salvation Until we change, what have we to offer anyone else?? All ii takes is a little reading to make that clear Very exclusive, we gasp at the mere thought of fellowship with other denominations. We do not even understand baptism as the bible promotes baptism. Some of these funny people believe even that repent and then be baptized means something. No matter which side of the fence you are on it is clear we haven't a clue as to the role of women. Each side has some pretty harsh words for the other. Men hate church and don't want to come. Never mind all the sissy men that for generations were a visible active presence. We know better know. Tithe, that is also up for grabs as to what we are to believe. Chrisian education, pretty quaint idea now with all the superior public facilities. What is there to appeal or induce to be willing to listen to anything we say? Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman

I agree, Cricket. In my experience, Spirit-filled preaching appeals to men as well as women. The music, drums and recreation stuff not only is not necessary, it can kinda desecrate the sacredness--cheapens the religious experience. But if there is not powerful preaching, some may tend to rely on such artificial attractions as a poor substitute. Dave Quote
