Sulla Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 Stan you bring up a problem with any kind of project like this and thats how much artistic license to take. For example if I made Jesus look like the average jew from his time I would have to explain it was Jesus becouse no one would relize it was him:) He would be short and dark with curly hair and features so average he would not stand out. Same with Adam and Eve. They are supposed to be perfect and the hight of perfection. And as sad as it is world wide lighter color skin is thought of as more attractive. In Japan and China alone skin-lightening is a $7 billion per year industry as of 2005. So like with Jesus I will have to take some artistic license to convey the ideas better. And personally I think Adam and Eve were not really white but had some pigment:) Quote
Sulla Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 Another thought on Adam and Eve. Its interesting to look at other images of them. And styles etc. See examples below...(Painted Nudity Warning). And really I have not found any I like much. I always thought they should be more natural looking. Also for the garments Ellen White describes them the same as the garments for the angels and Jesus. Garments of light or robes of light. So the plan is to make them look like robes made of of billions of tiny stars and threads of light. As it fits and its much more visualy interesting than just a bright light or a solid white covering with no detail. http://www.copticchurch.org/Pictures/Designed_Pictures/adam_eve.jpg http://thesituationist.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/adam-eve-snake.jpg http://images.salon.com/news/feature/2007/05/31/creation_museum/story.jpg http://www.fictionwise.com/knight/titian.adam&eve.jpg http://www.latribunedelart.com/Expositions_2004/Rubens_-_Adam_et_Eve.JPG http://schools-wikipedia.org/images/393/39319.jpg http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/durer/adam-eve.jpg Quote
melvin mccarty Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Do you know of any Bible translations that does not say they were naked? mel Quote
Sulla Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 To be exact here is what it says "And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons." So where they naked before or did their covering go away when they sinned? Below is some more on the subject from the Bible and Ellen White. It seems she uses the same words to describe the covering of Jesus, Angels and Adam and Eve. Any way take a look and see what you think. Really its not a salvational issue but one I have to make practical artistic choices on. Satan, clothed in robes of brightness, appearing like an exalted angel, tempted the world's Redeemer without success. As the light of the angels shone around, brighter than the sun, that Roman guard fell as dead men to the ground. The light of heaven encircled the tomb, and the whole heaven was lighted by the glory of the angels. Satan, clothed in angel robes, will deceive, if possible, the very elect. But if the light from one angel caused men to fall to the earth as dead, Christ could not have come with even that glory. The sinless pair wore no artificial garments; they were clothed with a covering of light and glory, such as the angels wear. So long as they lived in obedience to God, this robe of light continued to enshroud them. . . .{DG 22.2} he love and peace which had been theirs was gone, and in its place they felt a sense of sin, a dread of the future, a nakedness of soul. The robe of light which had enshrouded them, now disappeared, and to supply its place they endeavored to fashion for themselves a covering; for they could not, while unclothed, meet the eye of God and holy angels. {PP 57.1} Adam and Eve both ate of the fruit, and obtained a knowledge which, had they obeyed God, they would never have had, --an experience in disobedience and disloyalty to God,--the knowledge that they were naked. The garment of innocence, a covering from God, which surrounded them, departed; and they supplied the place of this heavenly garment by sewing together fig-leaves for aprons. {CC 17.2} After the transgression of Adam and Eve they were naked, for the garment of light and security had departed from them. {LDE 249.2} John saw not a Saviour on the cross, not a man of sorrows, but the glorified Son of God, clothed in a garment of light, and girded with a golden girdle. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet like brass when it gleams in a furnace. The white robe of innocence was worn by our first parents when they were placed by God in holy Eden. They lived in perfect conformity to the will of God. All the strength of their affections was given to their heavenly Father. A beautiful soft light, the light of God, enshrouded 311 the holy pair. This robe of light was a symbol of their spiritual garments of heavenly innocence. Had they remained true to God it would ever have continued to enshroud them. But when sin entered, they severed their connection with God, and the light that had encircled them departed. Naked and ashamed, they tried to supply the place of the heavenly garments by sewing together fig leaves for a covering. {COL 310.4} He will come clad in the robe of light, which He has worn from the days of eternity. No human language can portray the scenes of the second coming of the Son of Man in the clouds of heaven. . . . He will come clad in the robe of light, which He has worn from the days of eternity. Sulla Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 Also this is not just an Adventist view or a new view. See http://books.google.com/books?id=0pMSVbgTDbUC&pg=PA340&lpg=PA340&dq=adam+eve+%22robes+of+light%22&source=web&ots=6OaA-9qAEL&sig=OMbTTf3fzQzPrSBV_01-P20AC94 Quote
LifeHiscost Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 Hi thought I would post the latest design for Eve. I think the face is about finished but still deciding on hair styles. What do you guys/gals think? Since each person hears God speak to them in the language they understand it would seem He would look best in appearance they would be more apt to understand. I like the facial and hair style you've posted. Definately find the paintings of various artists' conceptions less than appealing. I'm happy to believe both Adam and Eve had happy youthful appearances at creation. One man's opinion. Blessings! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Sulla Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 Thanks for the feedback LifeHiscost And keep the project in your prayers so its all done correctly. Quote
melvin mccarty Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Before they sinned they were naked see Genesis 2 last verse. mel Quote
Sulla Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 Thanks freeman glad you like it. Please pass it along to your friends. Melvin (aw-rome', aw-rome' - nude, either partially or totally) easily fits with a robe of light if its transparent. That and every thing else I stated is why. Not least of them is being able to no have to hide adam and eve behind bushes, hedges, branches, trees etc etc. It lets me do a LOT more with camera angles etc. Quote
melvin mccarty Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Yes I know it's a problem for artists. Of course Moses did not need to mention that they had no shame if they were not really naked did he? mel Quote
Sulla Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 Transparent garments would be the same. Quote
melvin mccarty Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Transparent garments would male no sense would they? Quote
Sulla Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 I think so but cant please everyone:) Quote
Stan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Never try to please everyone.. Those who do seem to do very little in life.. Those who make a difference sure seem to make enemies and have struggles.. Strange how that works... If you ever get a chance read the Biography of HMS Richards... The BRETHERN tried to stone him more than once.. Sulla Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Hmm never read that one I will try and find it and read it. Sounds like it would be interesting. Thanks for the tip:) Quote
Woody Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 At your clue ... I looked it up in his life story from his book ... H.M.S.Richards Man Alive! by Virginia Cason. I have his signed copy with a Bible verse he wrote into it. Anyway ... I haven't completed the entire book. But it did talk about a mean mob of some 20-30 men who tried stoning him. Is that what you were referring to. Maybe I haven't gotten to the Brethren trying to do that. Anyway ... He did live a complete life. I was sure blessed when I heard him speak. He knew his verses by heart. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Â
Woody Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 UPDATE ... Later ... I have been looking into this "stoning" charge you've leveled against the Conference... Stan. I could not find any thing like the actual throwing of stones as as with the case of the mob that attacked him. But, he was afraid that the "war department" as he called it ... would fire him. The "war department" was the MUSIC department. They felt his music of the Kings Herald was far too radical. They were pressuring him to fire some and keep with the traditional classic hymns. Does that sound familiar? Things don't change much. Anyway ... when he was out of the country they did actually fire some. He felt he would be next. He stood before the Conference at Annual session and declared that IF they wanted good music that they should not try to put it together ... but let Wayne Hooper do it. They did and he did. And HMS lived another day. Just a little Redwood Snippet on HMS. Brought to you by REDWOOD a better tree for a new tomorrow. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology. Â
Stan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Hmm I thought it was done by a guy. One of the Issues was coming out whit the HMS Richards Bible, the brethern panicked because "they" would say that 'adventists' had their own bible etc etc. That Bible has been such a blessing to so many people. Administrators Gail Posted January 30, 2008 Administrators Posted January 30, 2008 I LOVE HMS Richards! I'm going through his promise devotional right now :) Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
D. Allan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I LOVE HMS Richards! ... He used to speak at campmeetings when I was a kid. And I still remember how interesting a speaker he was. He at that time late in life was reading Gibbons' Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire and Saint Augstine's City of God. He loved those books. And quoted from them for examples in his sermons. Quote dAb O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
Sulla Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Sorry to change the subject but I have a question. I need suggestions on two things. 1. How to get information about my project to as many Adventist as possible on a very limited budget. 2. How to get information about my project to as many people as possible on a very limited budget. Quote
Sulla Posted February 2, 2008 Author Posted February 2, 2008 I read something today and I thought this perfectly explains how to make a project like mine. Its from when Ellen White is talking about a Childrens program. "Will it make those who acted their part in it more spiritually minded? Will it increase their sense of obligation to our heavenly Father who sent His Son into the world at such an infinite sacrifice to save fallen man from utter ruin? Was the mind awakened to grasp God because of His great love wherewith He has loved us?" And I understand it talking about those that took part. And its important in that regard. But also I think the same questions should be asked about those that watched. Quote
