Oh AND, in areas that have moderators...they should be doing something before I need to get involved.

Sounds like a good idea ... perhaps they should be presented with the idea ... maybe then they would do it. Perhaps any member should be able to "notify" the moderator.

Please note the "NOTIFY" button at the bottom of every post. Any member can already notify the mod.

Sieg Heil.

Hmmm. I guess there is no excuse then for the moderators if they have permission and instructions to do anything.

Oh AND, in areas that have moderators...they should be doing something before I need to get involved.

That is true. Except that in some cases, the moderators have had different ideas about handling problems on their threads, which has resulted in a less than even-handed approach--by admission and policy statement, in fact. The result is that some people do not feel comfortable posting in those areas, because they are not confident of fair treatment. Once again, individuals, in this case certain moderators, being 'a law unto themselves.' There is not a feeling of safety in those circumstances.

Amelia, a couple of posts back you made an appeal for moderators. I know of a couple of people who have volunteered to be moderators, but nothing was done. So, which is it? Is admin looking for moderators, or not?

Many are called, but few are chosen.

I'm going to be very blunt.

The forum needs moderators, not vigilantes. There IS a difference.

Well, I'm not taking my bat and ball and going home, but I'll be around less often for a while.

I've tried getting a discussion going around rules, and we saw what happened. I've tried just ignoring the nonsense and starting other topics for discussion, and we saw what happened.

The bottom line is that there are a lot of people behaving immaturely and selfishly, and there's no real way to deal with that besides decimating the board (in its literal sense of killing off one in ten).

In the mean time, all that can be done is to abandon the board... it's become a social club that's dominated by a shouting few, and is simply no longer attractive to many other people.

I'm sorry to have to say this and do this, because it's been a noble experiment. But IMO it has failed, because people haven't been able to look past their personal sense of injury and entitlement and look to the welfare of the community.

A 'Forum' is a place to discuss ideas. Perhaps that is the problem. People consider their thoughts, ideas and ideals to be more important than other people.

Could it be changed somehow into a "community" rather than a "forum?" I've no idea if thats possible!

The forum needs moderators, not vigilantes.

If there are moderators who do their job, consistently and even-handedly, then there will not be a need for vigilantes. It is good to focus on solutions that work, rather than on technicalities.

But, aside from that, it may be easy for someone to give advice or make pronouncements, who has not been on the receiving end. Before giving advice, it is good for a person to walk in the shoes of the one s/he is giving advice to.

While there has been so 'abuse' by moderators there as been a lot more moderators being abused.

I don't doubt it. I guess a lot depends on a person's experience. I have had some very pleasant experiences on C/A. There are some people on here who make life enjoyable. I could list a good number of them. I would like that to be the norm. And there are some excellent moderators who clearly make a real effort to be fair to all. It just so happens that I have been on the receiving end of some other stuff, which which has not been pleasant. It finally got to the point where something snapped, and I said, 'Enough!' Something needed to be done. And it is being done.

Stan, the solution is very, very simple IMO. It is a workable one. Have a few, simple rules. Have a policy statement of uniform enforcement. I recognize that there will ALWAYS be someone who feels that s/he has not been fairly treated, but if fairness is the stated policy and goal, at least that can help. Such has not been the stated policy on this forum, in some significant cases. Stan, that should change. And the buck stops with you as owner/administrator. You can make it happen with a few keystrokes. 'Marquess of Queensberry rules.' No, not those actual rules, this is not a boxing match. But the concept of uniform rules which apply to situations across the Board.

Stan, I encourage you to bite the bullet, make it happen. Bring closure to the issue.

And the relevance of your 'reminiscing' to the issues of this thread?

Ahh, I see. It appears that 'JeanMarie' is indeed a 'pen name' for someone who has been regularly posting here. Might be good to post under your regular name. The writing style, and the approach, are recognizable. But as for this thread, if you personally are not interested, then you certainly don't need to be involved. You can certainly pursue it in your own private forum, with your regular group.

And now we have heard from two of the trio. Perhaps the third is soon to follow with his contribution.

Jean Marie,

It is possible David thinks somehow you are connected to me,or probably may even think that you and I are one in the same. Not to terribly long ago, another newcomer posted something that was not well received by another member. Both he and David determined it was me. Don't let them intimidate you. He possibly may be speaking of someone else, as he referred to he, that I don't know. But I do know you can as easily be accused of being me as they have done this before.

Haven't thought of that goofy song from Howdy Doody in more years than I care to remember.

Hope you enjoy your stay here, it does get interesting

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

No, Bonnie, JeanMarie is not you. But JeanMarie is indeed another individual who has regularly posted on this forum under a number of other names.

That is very possible. I know that you previously accused another new member of being me , one that I have never had any connection with. Seems a little strong tho to state it so emphatically unless you have acess to his/her registration and they used their real name.

Anyway, back to your plans. You have said that they are being carried out or maybe it was they were going to be. Anxious to see what they are

Actually, Bonnie, someone else had initially thought you were that new member. I did tag along, although it was not a biggie to me personally. In this case, the ID does seem rather clear. But enough of that. It is off topic. As fopr the plans, yes, they are in progress. Several here, including yours truly, are uniting to deal constructively with abusive posts on this forum.

Goody, sounds like a takeover. Have never seen one up close so will be sure and stay tuned.

No David, saying......

This is you indeed know. You cannot indeed KNOW,unless someone INDEED told you.

It will be interesting to see the plans you have for C/A as you carry them out.

Whatever. No biggie to me personally. But as for a 'take-over?' That certainly is not my intention.

Well, in any event, your plans that you seem to have made for C/A, and promise to carry out with collegues

seem already in place and ready to go.

Be interesting to watch.

Maybe it is the A Team, silently sliding into place.

Waiting to see

With a vengeance. Certain types of things WILL never, ever happen again.

I seem to recall somewhere in the bible, am sure I read it, Vengence Is Mine Sayeth the Lord

But your statement of certain things never happening again can only be carried out if you have control of who is a member, and that pesky little delete switch.

I know of course you have threatened lawsuits, but that doesn't prevent something from happening, that is after the fact.

So back to my original thought, sounds a whole lot like a takeover. But am willing to wait and watch before I say Indeed that is what you are doing.

Anxiously waiting to see your plans put into action
