Today's blessing

It's been a while since we've had one of these on-going threads. But part of the sermon this week was on the topic of 'today', and that it's always today... so this is the thread where you post the simple blessing that made your day today.

A letter I'd been waiting on, from Canada, arrived today, and that was the last thing holding up the major research project I'll be working on for the next couple of years. So the fact that the letter turned up and I can get started was my blessing for today. That and some lovely rain.

Glad to hear about it, Bravus. God is good, indeed. But as for the rain . . . wish we could send a bunch of ours your way, since you appreciate it.

Yeah, it's funny - about 2/3 of our state is receiving drought assistance, and about 2/3 is receiving flood assistance! (Mind you, our state is almost 3 times the size of Texas.)

The river through Rockhampton is 8 m (25 feet) higher than usual at the moment... but here in the southeast corner we're still officially in drought, so any bit of rain is very welcome. We've had a reasonable amount lately, but the dams are still only about 25% full, and we're on Level 6 water restrictions.

Level 6!!! What does that involve?

Only flushing the toilet on alternate days?

All family members showering together?

Someone from the government coming around and monitoring how many glasses of water you drink?

I won't even ask about washing cars or watering gardens.

The Melbourne water stores are at 37% and we are on level 3a water restrictions. I thought that was bad enough.

- Gardens may only be watered on Saturday and Tuesday. (even numbered homes like ours). Lawns can't be watered anytime and driveways/sidewalks cannot be hosed down unless there is an emergency.

- Cars may only be washed with a bucket or at a commercial car wash which uses recycled water

- Pools and spas cannot be topped up, and cannot be filled with drinking quality water (only bore or recycled water)

- Only 1 in 4 sports grounds are being watered. The local government decides which ones.

I can't begin to imagine level 6 restrictions.

Can you send some flood water from the flooded areas to the drought affected areas?

so this is the thread where you post the simple blessing that made your day today.

I am sharing two because this is making our week, and quite possibly our year.

Yesterday one of my husbands' clients called and said that every year they try and do "some" charity work. This year they decided to get more personal and pick a person to help. They chose my husband. He has a really bad tooth, he has had bad dental problems for years, we just don't have insurance or any money to fix them. This client decided to get my husbands' teeth fixed.

We serve and Awesome GOD, we haven't even been praying for this. How cool is that?!?!?

Next thing came today. The Texas Organization for the Blind called, they are flying my husband out so that he can evaluate all the cool do-dads and gadgets and software that he thinks he will need to help him in his everyday life. This will actually take two days, and they are paying for the hotel. Once he makes his selections he will get it---for free.

Now we had been praying for this, so this one was an answer to prayer. Our GOD is a Mighty Awesome GOD!!!

You have reason to be jumping and leaping and praising God Liz.

Now, THIS is the type of thread which encourages and uplifts the members! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

And please keep up this type of posting, everybody.

(I'm sure each of us has some type of blessing in our lives.)

Mine today is that the incessant rain has stopped. Temporarily, at least. Blue skies give me inspiration to get my chores done.

Today's blessing is the freedom and autonomy I have in my job. I need to proof-read a forthcoming book, and there's a lot more space at home, so I can simply stay home and do it, without having to ask permission or contact anyone.

(one of the cool things about a thread like this is that tiny blessings like mine and life-changing ones like Liz's can easily co-exist. I've also noticed on another forum that it's often the person who is doing it toughest in her own life who will commiserate with others' much smaller trials, and rejoice with them in their joys.)

Well, this may seem like a small thing, but to us it is progress.

Yesterday, my ds7 was angry at me and smacked me with his hand. This is an improvement over the usual hitting me with his fist. He's getting attached, and learning to control himself better.

No questions in public, please.

You know, in parenting, sometimes it is those "small" things, that make us jump for joy the highest and the loudest.

If it is an improvement, it is an improvement. YEAH!!

Dottie, I know you are very thankful for this blessing. It may seem like a small thing but it's really a big step forward.

Your water situation reminds me to be thankful for something we often take for granted. Our water reservoirs where I am are full, especially after the recent rains.

BTW, what's the matter with you guys? You are surrounded by the biggest body of water on this planet! You can turn an onion that makes your eyes tear into one that doesn't but can't turn sea water into fresh? ROFL

Lots more rain!

It's weird that we're still in drought when we also have floods... but the land was so dry and the dams so empty that it'll take more than one unusually wet summer to get us back into more normal conditions.

So once again, it was a blessing to hear the rain on the roof this morning, and to hear the forecast for much more tomorrow. Even if the cricket was rained out on Sunday night and looks likely to be again tonight!

And heh, Gerry, we are indeed starting to build desalination plants - but currently they all use fossil fuels, so they tend to cause the very kinds of environmental issues that they're meant to help address! Bit of a vicious cycle.

A blessing for today.....

Not sure where the last person posted or what s/he posted, so I am going blindly after another person....

This past week, I went to see my mother, who had a peliminary diagnosis of breast cancer. It has been confirmed. The good news of this is that it is a small tumor...and that they think that it can be surgically removed with a modify surgical proceedure.

I was able to get a leg of this trip to go to Boise Idaho, to see my son. We had a great visit.

This morning, I went to the Airport [bOI] and my flight was cancelled due to mechanical problems...I am NOT complaining, as I would rather have mechanical problems on the ground than in the air. My cheerful demeanor was able to get me rerouted to my home town within 15 minutes of the canceled flight.

All in all, a good trip...a blessing...
