Woody Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Huck is stuck in the mud. Even if he wins all of the rest of the delegates available to win in the coming elections ... he would still not win. So ... why is he still in the race ??? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
nuff sed Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 To raise his political stature for the future...........Who ever heard of him before now????? Maybe he is thinking of running again when we get tired of whomever we elect this time> Quote
Moderators John317 Posted February 13, 2008 Moderators Posted February 13, 2008 Huck is stuck in the mud. Even if he wins all of the rest of the delegates available to win in the coming elections ... he would still not win. So ... why is he still in the race ??? I think he is doing McCain a favor by staying in the race. This way, every time there's a primary, McCain's name comes up-- and mostly as winning, too-- whereas without Huck in there, the media would hardly mention McCain, and so his name could easily be forgotten for a while like Guiliani's was. Also, I think Huck stays in it maybe hoping that McCain will pick him as his running-mate, although it would be a mistake for McCain to choose him as VP. McCain needs a conservative who can enliven if not excite the conservative base of the party. I would suggest that he choose Condy Rice. That way both parties would be offering both a woman and a black candidate. That just might really throw the Democrats for a loop, I think. That would also have the advantage of setting Rice up to be an excellent, perhaps almost unbeatable Presidential candidate in 4, maybe 8, years. I think such a ticket would be something to create a great deal of interest and excitement in the Republican candidates, and in this way possibly take some of the wind out of the sails of the Democrats. Moderators John317 Posted February 14, 2008 Moderators Posted February 14, 2008 You do have a point there. Emphasis is already being placed on the idea that McCain represents the past and more of the same. McCain's strength will be in repeating over and over again and in different ways that Obama is good in looks, likability and talk, but short on experience and accomplishments. (Most people draw a complete blank when confronted with the question of what Obama has done in the Senate to make him deserve to live in the White House.) The truth is, of course, that Obama is untested under pressure, whereas McCain has proven he has guts of steel and the ability to fight in situations where most people would give up. But as far as Rice as a VP is concerned, I think her connection to Bush might be a liability at first, but it would wear off once the campaigning gets going in earnest and people see her as a woman with outstanding talents, intelligence, and independence. Ron Lambert Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Gov. Huckabee looks like he is staying in the race until Sen. McCain makes a deal with him. Kind of transparent. Republicans do often like to pick a running mate from the South, to bring in southern votes as part of a "southern strategy." But Huckabee may be getting on some people's nerves. Romney scored a lot of points by the classy way he gave his endorsement to McCain for the good of the party. It is true that McCain may feel some ill-will toward Romney for going negative with attack ads before anyone else did. But then again, presidential nominees often pick someone for veep running mate who might be a "hatchet man" to go on the attack against opponents. Romney has shown himself well able to play that role! Quote
Neil D Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 So, you're thinking that maybe it gonna be a McCain/Romney ticket rather than a McCain/Huckabee? I think that McCain has such eminty against the conservatives that he might just shuck Huckabee totally.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Dr. Shane Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 A conservative, southern governor would make a good running mate. Look for someone like Charlie Crist or Sonny Perdue. Although I have heard Tim Pawlenty from Minnesota mentioned. If he runs against Hillary he could choose a woman like Kay Baily Hutchinson from Texas. I don't see McCain choosing any of the other Republican candidates as a running mate. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

I don't see McCain choosing any of the other Republican candidates as a running mate. I think it's going to be Obama at the top of the Democratic ticket. Of course, Hillary will accept the VP spot. I have no doubt that McCain would beat Hillary, but not sure about Obama. He has a good chance of getting in. He's such a good speaker and attracts so many independents and Republicans. McCain needs a recognized conservative to rally and excite the Republican base. Ron Lambert Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 So Neil, you are saying, "Shuck the Huck"? Toward the end, when it was too late to stop McCain, many of the conservatives started trying to rally around Romney. The only problem is, a lot of people--especially Evangelicals--are leery of Romney's Mormonism. Then again, a lot of people are leery of Huckabee trying to establish a theocracy, with his talk of changing the Constitution to bring it more into line with "Christian values." Giuliani's still standing around hopefully. Then there is Fred Thompson. Ron Paul, of course, can just forget it. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted February 18, 2008 Moderators Posted February 18, 2008 ..Giuliani's still standing around hopefully. Then there is Fred Thompson. Ron Paul, of course, can just forget it. I'd vote for any of the Republicans above before I'd vote for Hillary or Obama. Mainly because Obama is the most liberal of all the Democratic senators Obama would definitely raise the income taxes substantially. He would also, of course, as promised, start taking U.S. troops out of Iraq almost immediately. So everything we fought and died for there, and all the money we put into it, would all be for nothing. The insurgents and their Al Qaeda allies will then have won and Americans would be viewed as having betrayed their word and run off with their tail between our legs. I agree Ron Paul can forget it as far as being elected President is concerned, but he can still be re-elected to Congress, and I hope he is. I like Fred Thompson but I was disappointed that he didn't seem to have a greater passion and desire to occupy the office. It's like he didn't know for sure why he should be President. The same with Guiliani. McCain, by contrast, definitely has heart, guts, and conviction. Both Obama and Hillary are unproven. Neither one can point to anything they've done in the Senate to show they deserve to be President. That's my opinion. I like Obama as a speaker and as a person, but he is just too inexperienced and doesn't come up with many specifics of what he would do. And I don't want to see Bill's face and hear his voice every night on the news for the next 8 years. Vote for Hillary and you get two for one. Regards.
