This evening Obama said instead of spending money in Iraq we can spend THAT money in the inner city.

WAIT!!! STOP!!! THINK FOR A MINUTE!!!

Let's not spend THAT money anywhere. Let's stop deficit spending. Let's scale down Iraq and reduce the deficit.

But sadly what keeps happening is lots of military spending, blowing out the deficit, cutting programs in the inner city... then if ever the military gets cut (likely story), the cry is 'cut the deficit', not 'restore social services'. But the real threat - or at least *a* real threat - to America is poverty and violence and the death of its city cores, and that needs work. I agree that the deficit is unsustainable, but there are a million things - even my beloved space program - that should be cut back before services to those in most need.

Under the G.W. Bush Administration inner-city and poverty -fighting programs have increased in funding. No money has been taken from those programs in order to fight the war. The war has been fought on a credit card. When the troops come home it will be time to pay off the card - not continue to charge with a new shopping list.

As somebody said... the problem with idea of police is policing the police.

Government today has very little accountability, not that it ever had much in history of the world.
