This is an issue that is present for any and all candidates. It is NOT an issue with just Democrats or Blacks or Women.

Might I add ... I believe that John McCain has already had a threat to his life. I believe he was the first. But, it will happen to most all of them. It is nothing new. It is not a Black issue ... it is a human issue.

Apparently the Secret Service does not feel there is a threat to Obama ...

In Dallas today they told the police to stop looking for weapons at a Obama rally. Maybe this is a sign of the "end of racism".

Speaking of Obama ... another fellow Demo said ... he represents "Change you can Xerox". Hmmm... Plagiarism perhaps?

Are things getting heated?

Have had several people tell me, who are also black, tell me that they are not going to vote for Obama because they fear he will be harmed.

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

Sounds like a good sensible plan to me ... not voting for Obama that is.

That makes as much sense as not marching with Martin Luther King Jr. out of fear for his safety. Omaba knows the risks and he takes them willingly. I am not sure I will vote for him in November but I am certainly open-minded enough to consider that although I need to learn more about him which I expect will happen.

Personally I am not yet onboard the Obama train as of yet. Black, white, male, female, republican, democrat, conservative, liberal. Politicians are all the same to me. They all make these grandiose promises that are difficult, if not impossible to fulfill. For example, I don't see univeral health care happening in this country. it would be nice, but I don't see it happening. I've seen too many Doctors, and nurses too, driving around in Lexus coupes, etc. I don't see how anyone can foot the bill so that everyone has health insurance.

I also don't see the troops coming home soon. If the U.S. pulls its troops out now, no telling what that country will turn into. This whole world would be in much more danger.

Still, I will probably end up voting for either Obama or Hillary in the general election. Old habits are hard to break.

We spend about $2 trillion dollars on health-care in the United States.

The federal budget last year was $2.4 trillion dollars.

Universal health-care would double our federal budget. It could be paid for by a 30% payroll tax much like Social Security. The employee pays half and the employer pays half.

Average salary in the US is $38,000/year. That would mean an withholding of $5,700 and the employer matching the $5,700. That comes out to be about $475/month for the employee and $475/month for the employer.

Under our current system health insurance costs about $4,200/year for an individual and 11,500/year for a family of four. However that does not included the cost of deductibles and co-pays. So the costs between the two systems are comparable. It is just a matter of deciding which way we prefer as a nation.

I strongly believe we need health-care reform and support universal health-care. However I think the insurance-based system can work and be much more efficient with needed reforms.

The big concern of conservatives is that the government will mess things up so bad that it will cost more under government control than under the insurance companies. All things being equal, it will cost the same. Companies will be able to match the 15% because they will be saving money on what they no longer have to pay to insurance companies. I heard in the news some time ago that General Motors spends more money on health benefits than they do on steel.
