Another such eclipse isn't due for another 3 or 4 years. In the Pacific time zone it's due between about 5:30 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. or so. http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20080220/sc_space/totallunareclipsetonight I hope to be able to view it. carolaa Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 You are right, Australia is out of the viewing area. I was so looking forward to watching it, but alas, it is raining. There is supposed to be a rare triangle (with the moon, Saturn, and some other major star) that will not be seen again for a thousand years. You can also google NASA lunar eclipse for info. It doesn't start for another hour here in the U.S. (8:40 p.m. EST) Quote

Tonight I spent an hour teaching the Stars and Stars Advanced honor to our Pathfinder club. At exactly 8:01 CST we took a "field trek" out to the church parking lot to watch the beginning of the eclipse. It was a splendid supernal sight! Something our young people will certainly not soon forget. Quote

Another such eclipse isn't due for another 3 or 4 years. Be of good cheer, Jeannie. We had a magnificent total lunar eclipse towards the end of last year. I had been teaching my Year Seven Science class a unit on astronomy shortly before this event so all my little treasures were outside watching it (about 8:30 pm or so from memory). The sky was clear and it was a very memorable sight. First the moon got more and more reddish-brown as the moon moved into the Earth's penumbra, then a little nibble of black appeared, which grew into a bite as the moon moved into the umbra, which gradually became complete blackness, then the process gradually reversed until we had a full moon again.
