That's a interesting Question Stan. I think it depends on how we have been influenced by another person. It could be a member of your own family. Of course it could be a Preacher, such as Doug Batchelor, EGW, etc.

If it was for the 21st century the name Stan Jensen would need to be in that list somewhere. The most influential Adventist in my life has been individual pastors in the various churches I have been a member of. As far was which person has influenced the most people, I think we need to leave EG White out since she is the obvious answer. I would say either HMS Richards, William Fagal, George Vandeman or Mark Finley. Radio and TV allowed them to reach, and thus influence so many people.

In the 21st Century it looks like it will be those in ministries like AWR, 3ABN, Adventist Media Center (including the Hope Channel) and internet ministries like us - Club Adventist.

Jesus. He created the universe, & everything in it, created and kept the sabbath. His testimony is the spirit of prophecy. He is the word, and the word is Him. Dan 8:14 jhn 1:1, the whole bible.

All the rest of those names are also rans, if that.

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

I don't think Jesus is Adventist...He's more of a unitarian...

How do we define "influential"?

And influential to whom, Adventists or the rest of the world?

What would happen if we asked this question to non-Adventists?

Imagine a reporter stopping random people in the street and asking them to name an Adventist who is well-known for having made a difference to the world in some way during the 20th century.

Would they be able to name even one?

I'm not so sure if having an SDA that we could name is important. What is important is to name a Christian who has made a difference. We are all part of the body of Christ whether we are SDAs Baptists or Lutherens.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

I'm not sure who would be considered the one most influential

but I do know that in our small rural church we have families who came to our net meetings because they thought they would see Doug Bachelor in person. They did stay and are now baptised members. We have found in house to house visitation that there are many non-SDAs who know his name and say that they watch him on some channel. Media ministry is making a difference.

This is the context that I answered the question. I am guessing those in media ministries were able to reach more non-Adventists than typical pastors, evangelists or missionaries.

The current list of most influencial Adventists would include George Knight [a well known education in his own right among non-sda educators], and some public personalities, ie HMS Richards, Vendon, Dick Dirkson, Bradley, and a few others...

IMHO, of course...

I was trying to get at the person who made the most signifant difference for Adventism, sans EGW.

I think Folkenberg got the Church turned on for growth.

HMS Richards was the most powerful speaker, and he spoke clear and so simple that even some theologians understood what he was saying..

Re Stan Jensen

That might be overstating things a bit, well a lot, :) but I was talking about the 20th century...

I think Barry Black would be a good one for what he did outside SDA circles.

Inside SDA circles I would have to suggest that neighbor of Neil's down there in Southern Oregon ... George Knight.

I hate to promote the State of Jefferson . But they do have some good people down there.

May we be one so that the world may be won.

Yeah, and they even have ME!!! :--) angelnotbonana

But I find that George Knight shows up in the most unlikely places...he has written books for SDAs to clarify history, and remove some myths that we have promolgated...he has written some books for other Christian denominations that are showing upon in those stores that compete with the ABC and he is showing up in secular education circles as a valid educator....

It surprises me that we don't have more people like him, influencing the christian world...
