Woody Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Obama -- Can we vote for a President who smokes cigarettes and says he looks good in his underwear? I just heard on a 'credible' TV news Channel about the above. Just wondering. For the benefit of Olger. But it WAS on the news. On the McCain side ... Some are questioning if McCain is qualified to be President. Apparently he may not qualify even if elected. It so happens that he was born near the Panama Canal. Since you have to be born in the US ... some are questioning his qualifications to be President. Maybe neither one is qualified to be President. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. olger Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 You're just jealous, we know your type. My pick would would be Ben Stein for Pres, and Clark Howard for VP. oG Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

Moderators Bravus Posted February 28, 2008 Moderators Posted February 28, 2008 Ben Stein is a very smart and very funny guy - have you seen the TV quiz show 'Win Ben Stein's money'? He is also a very informed commentator on the stock markets. Quite the renaissance man. Of course, he's a massively unregenerate old conservative - but mind you, a real conservative, none of your 'neo' nonsense. You guys could do worse. Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted February 28, 2008 Moderators Posted February 28, 2008 Someone asked Obama the 'boxers or briefs' question, and he deflected it with as much grace as he could. Anyone planning on asking McCain the same question? Anyone? Quote Truth is important
Woody Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 OK ... to be fair to you Clinton supporters. WHY would we vote for a President that would claim support/endorsement from a dead person. Yes, Hillary now claims the support of Ann Richards. Long Dead. Hillary will do anything to win Texas. Should I send Hillary some state of the dead texts? Since you have to be born in the US ... some are questioning his qualifications to be President. The Constitution does not say one must be "born in the US" in order to be President. It says one must be "a natural born Citizen". The Supreme Court has never ruled on what "a natural born Citizen" is. The Panama Canal zone was a US territory so I think in McCain's case there will be little issue if it does get challenged and go before the Supreme Court. A more difficult case would be if one was born in Germany to American parents serving in the military. Or born at sea on a foreign vessel. The Court would likely rule that "a natural born Citizen" is anyone that has been a US citizen from birth. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... D. Allan Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Could he be Secretary of Defense? Quote dAb O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
Moderators John317 Posted March 1, 2008 Moderators Posted March 1, 2008 Yes. The Constitution does not have the same requirements for cabinet members as it does for the U.S. President. One of the reasons for the requirement that the president be born in the U.S. is that the framers of the constitution feared that someone born in England could take the country back under British rule. That requirement disqualified Alexander Hamilton, one of the framers of the constitution, from being President, but he was in Washington's cabinet as the first Secretary of the Treasury. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Kountzer Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 It could be Hillary and McCain. Obama had a lead in the polls here in Tx and in Ohio. Now they are saying that Obama and Hillary are dead even. If Wednesday morning dawns and she has won both of those primaries it's a new ballgame. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Frederick Douglass

Now they are saying that Obama and Hillary are dead even. If Wednesday morning dawns and she has won both of those primaries it's a new ballgame. Yes, that's true. Actually I am hoping the election decision will be between Hillary and McCain. If it is between Obama and McCain, the contrast will be even more stark. I like some things about Obama, but at least four things make me concerned about him if he were to occupy the White House: 1) Lack of experience and his not having been tested in the heat of battle, figuratively speaking. 2) The company he keeps; close associates and people who have supported him with lots of money, people whose backgrounds Obama will not want the American people to know about. This goes to the question of his judgment and personal integrity. 3) The fact that Obama says he would bring American troops back from Iraq immediately-- just when American soldiers are winning. So Obama would gain the distinction of being a President who decided America should lose in a situation in which we could have been victorious. 4) Obama's plan calls for a significant raising of taxes, particularly income taxes. JeriAnne Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Obama is the first person to run for president that I haave seen that I think would have the Charisma necessary to bring about the end of time events! His support by Oprah and her New Age buddies enhances this. I am not very fond of any of the options! But if Obama is going to hurry us to the kingdom maybe he is the one I should vote for! Then I would find myself squarely against him at some point in the future! Is that a fair option? Quote
Moderators John317 Posted March 2, 2008 Moderators Posted March 2, 2008 What you say about charisma is quite true. I was in the 6th grade when John Kennedy won the presidency. I was in the 8th when he was assassinated. I remember him well. The night Obama gave his speech in Iowa, I felt that this man strongly reminds me of President Kennedy. He speaks to people's dreams and hopes and idealism the same way Kennedy did. But I am not convinced that he is as capable as Kennedy was. For one thing, Kennedy proved himself under fire just like McCain did. Obama has never been really challenged in his life. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Then I would find myself squarely against him at some point in the future! Is that a fair option? I think you are mistaken in your expectations of what the end-time events will be. The events you are speaking of will not come about due to a man's charisma. They come about through popular demand. The people will demand those changes, such as the Sunday law. The leaders will bow to the will of the masses. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Moderators John317 Posted March 2, 2008 Moderators Posted March 2, 2008 Ralph Nadar is more likely to take votes away from Democrats, Hillary or Obama, than from the Republican, McCain. Of course if it hadn't been for Nadar, the Democrats would have won the Presidency in 2000. Looks like he's out for the job of spoiler again. Well, I wish him great success. I don't think that is correct. The Constitution reads "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President..." It is interesting that the Constitution allowed immigrants that had become naturalized prior to the adoption of the Constitution to be eligible to become President but not immigrants after its adoption. CyberGuy Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 If McCain was born in a US Territory I think that qualifies as a Natural Born US Citizen. The Supreame court may have to rule on this IF McCain wins. I doubt it will be brought up unless McCain wins. Quote Riverside CA

Obama can afford to lose both Ohio and Texas and still be in the game. Because of the way the Democrats divide their delegates up, Hillary could lose Texas' popular vote and still stay in the race, because she would even then pick up some delegates; but she can't be in the race if she loses both Ohio and Texas. She absolutely must win in Ohio. If she loses both, she'll certainly get out. If she stays in and makes a battle at the convention, she has to realize that she would destroy all chance of coming back in 2012. McCain is a natural-born citizen under 8 USC 1401©: "a person born outside of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents both of whom are citizens of the United States and one of whom has had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions, prior to the birth of such person."
