Stan Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Forward this to everyone one of those who try to change the prayer to be a full blown sermon in Church.... The prayers offered in public should be short and to the point. God does not require us to make the season of worship tedious by lengthy petitions. . . .A few minutes is long enough for any ordinary public petition. Moderators LynnDel Posted March 22, 2008 Moderators Posted March 22, 2008 That reminds me of a story my dad likes to tell. When he was growing up in Coeur d'Alene, ID, SDA evangelistic meetings were held in town, and all the church school students came - probably for months, if it was typical to the evangelistic series of the day. All the church school children sat on the front row every night. The evangelist would go on and on in his prayers, and at school the boys started a discussion as to how long he actually prayed. That night, just as they were kneeling to pray, my dad, a kid then, turned to his friends and whispered, "Time him! Time him!" The evangelist must have heard him, because that night the prayer was very short. Quote LD

Woody Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 My early childhood memories of an evangelist was a particular old one that would consistently use the phrase 'Lend Me Your Ears'. We used to count and mimic the times that he would repeat that phrase. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
