saved by grace vs own merits

There is some confusion about salvation;

Fact one, nobody can be saved by our own merits

Fact two, we are saved by grace

Fact three, if you live lawlessly God will deny you

Now most people like to take things to the extreme. They say for example we have to be perfect of our own just like Jesus to be accepted. Others say that we can do whatever we want, have a party because Jesus paid it all. I think we need to clarify and revelate these teachings.

I think, if you believe in Jesus and want to follow Jesus, you will keep his laws because the holy spirit convicts you to do that. So from the will to follow Jesus, comes the holy spirit, comes keeping the law. But this process i think is distinguished from salvation in the sense that it is not our own keeping of the law or our own way of life that makes us able for Jesus to forgive us and attributes his righteousness to us, it is salvation through faith whereby we receive the holy spirit that will cause us to keep the law. Somebody who knows the law is valid, has that conviction in his heart, but still decides to do other things, cannot be saved because he rejected the holy spirit. Therefore the rejection of the holy spirit is the only unpardonable sin.

What do you think about these thoughts?i am trying to come with a solution because there are people in church that are very legalistic while others are lawless. How do we deal with this tension between grace and law?

I see a conflict with Fact #3 compared to Facts #1 + 2 .

hmmm that s strange, because they are all in the bible. Lol. No seriously, they are complementary. The third fact actually should be, those who willfully live lawlessly will not receive grace.

I thought that was a very good description of the relationship of the servant to His Master, Jesus.

One of those things that can't be avoided. That tension will continue till Jesus comes.

I think there is one place where that tension doesn't exist, Gerry. However it probably will always exist on this earth in the hearts of those who accept the theology that some work that they do has some responsibility for their salvation.
