Stan Posted April 7, 2008 Author Posted April 7, 2008 I have wondered if this will help/hurt her support of the 'next' president? Moderators Gerr Posted April 7, 2008 Moderators Posted April 7, 2008 WOW!!! I never heard of her beliefs before! If she remains very visible in her support of Obama, and if the opposition played this up, Obama could very well lose little support he has among evangelicals & conservative Christians. Gerry Quote
Woody Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Well .... I "feel" that we should show love and tolerance for people who believe like her and Obama. We don't have to personally agree but we don't have to be abrasive in our differences. I think we should try to unite in the areas of agreement and work with those who believe in this stuff. We can unite in our efforts to serve mankind and all those who are hurting. Finding common ground is always better than dwelling on our differences. It's our job to LOVE ... it is God's job to convict. Love WON another ... Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Kountzer Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 Nancy and Prez Reagan consulted astrologers big time. That's as new age as anything. Besides, every administration has some sleezy thing going on. Contragate, skipping service in the military only to become commander n chief years later, lewinski gate, oral sex in the oval office. Etc. Amelia Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I like Oprah. She is fantastic; a strong female role model. LifeHiscost Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Hmmm... "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." James 1:17 KJV Oprah has been given many gifts. Her stewardship of those gifts are between the Lord of glory and her. Our respnsibility is to spread the Word. Hopefully she will find the Lord of glory because someone is willing to share what they know about Him. Regards! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Amelia Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 OK, I finally got to watch that video. I can't watch videos at work as the network has them blocked. I don't see that Oprah has started any kind of church. She has always jumped on one bandwagon or another with books that come out. Last year it was The Secret and there have been others. I think she is still looking for something that will fill that part of her that is still empty. She also misunderstood God being a jealous God. That's too bad since He has blessed her in so many ways. All this dipping into weirdness could cause her ivory tower to crumble. But she is still using her wealth for good projects. Quote <p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="font-weight:bold;"><span style="font-style:italic;">"Do not use harmful words, but only helpful words, the kind that build up and provide what is needed, so that what you say will do good to those who hear you."</span></span> Eph 4:29</span><br><br><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/gizmotimetemp_both/US/OR/Fairview.gif" alt="Fairview.gif"> Fairview Or</p>
Kountzer Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Everyone knows Oprah is kinda new age. That news was out 10 years ago. That never stopped all the stars and politicians, both conservative and liberal, from flocking to her show. Only difference now is she came out in support of Obama. Alls fair in love, war and presidential elections I guess. DB Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Frederick Douglass
Woody Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Hmmm... Could you expound upon that my dear friend Olger? OR ... Shall I just guess what would come out of your mouth? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted April 8, 2008 Members Posted April 8, 2008 I agree with your post about Oprah. I also believe that she is looking to fill a need. And I do like that she use's the money she makes to help many people. pkrause Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. FoundByLove Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 I've read her bio. What a woman! I think she -does- fill a very important need, yet... I don't believe it's ever wise to hang one's hat on the peg of another's heart, in the sense of expecting that nothing will ever go wrong. Oprah is a human being, she isn't God, and I do wish that while people remained open to her being a great person, that they would also be open to knowing that even great people make mistakes and so forth. I've watched celeb-idols fall throughout my life and at first, because I was taught to, I judged and hated them. Now I just look at them and see them as human beings. And the funny thing is, I have Rosie O'Donnell to thank for that. Sometimes it's not what we try to do for others that counts nearly so much as what we inadvertently wind up doing for others as we do for ourselves. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try though, because much good can come from the trying. But we shouldn't ever abuse the tooting of our own horns. It's not wrong to toot them for a good cause, even for our own cause if that's a necessity, but a horn tooted with empty wind sounds rather annoying. Quote
JeriAnne Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 There is so much in New Age teachings that answers the gasping, gapping holes in most religions! Jesus has become a bad name thanks to those who commit heinous violence of body, mind and spirit while claiming they do it for Him! NO ONE IS GOING TO TAKE MY JESUS FROM ME! NOT THE ONE I HAVE MET PERSONALLY AND THAT LIVES AND DWELLS WITHIN ME DAILY! However I can NOT blame others from not wanting to have ANYTHING to do with HIM. If I hadn't already met Him I wouldn't want to meet Him from what I see His followers doing! So much of what is going on with Oprah is a reflection of that! I do feel she is on dangerous ground but I also know that God honors sincere, and searching hearts who long to know Him. The tradgedy is that because of the Abuses done in His name God may be eliminated from the possible beliefs. We are living in the time of REVEALING or Revelation! The New Age teachings have the attactiveness and power to become the platform of an Antichrist. When taken to their natural fruition it becomes clear that the teachings ARE ANTI CHRIST! But it isn't that obvious at the beginning. However if we run in fear we will be in danger of missing the truth that is so very near the counterfeit. 180 degrees from falsehood is NOT truth! It is much, much closer than that! So close it is like Bone and Marrow! I watch to learn what is consistant with the God of my life. I have found MUCH to learn and to benefit from. I trust that same God for wisdom to sort out the error! He has never let me down before and I know He won't now! Quote
FoundByLove Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 Did I miss something here? Abuses done by Oprah in God's name? I must have missed a post or a news story or something... Um, hey, just found the video. I'm watching it now... This is a U-Tube video. It's something put together by who knows who, with who knows what video editing software... I think it's wise not to take this too seriously. What Oprah actually said was something from an episode I remember watching way back when, about "many ways to God." For each individual. I have to agree with that, that no two people will ever share the same exact beliefs, even about Jesus. A lot of that video is not Oprah-approved, nor would it ever be, from my understanding of what she actually does and doesn't believe herself. And I'll add to my own personal blaspheme, which I seem to be getting better at these days... I have to say I agree with her experience in her late 20s, and I like the quote she read from that book. I invite her here for comment, if she'd like. Not that I expect that, but the invitation is out there, before we all crucify her. Also, to answer myself in another thread, I'll post it here: I finally see nothing wrong with being anywhere, be it Safeway or church, together with others who don't believe exactly like I do -- even if that makes them blessedly unhappy... Also, is there something wrong with a US Department of Peace? It's about time our nation had something like that, right? And, turn off the TV? Why? So we won't be exposed to information that might challenge our beliefs, and our minds, and possibly cause us to grow as a result of that? Quote
LifeHiscost Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Wintley has already.. Not meaning to sound cynical, but the million dollars for the dream academy wasn't turned down because of Oprah's misguided theology. Maybe Wintley is better able to minister to Oprah's need than we who observe from the superficial sidelines. Regards! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Amelia Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 To me it was just a cut & paste job that creates drama in order to sell that book. carolaa Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 To me it was just a cut & paste job that creates drama in order to sell that book. I don't believe the purpose of the video is to sell a book. The purpose of the video is to discredit Obama. There is really no other reason for his name being mentioned in the video. It's lame, just like the Rev. Wright issue, but people will eat it up - till the next thing comes along. Quote
