Ginge Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 The adventist church has its issues with "once saved always saved", so much so that they even hyper-ventilate to be able to assert that they ARE saved! Personally, I KNOW I am saved because Christ died for my sins. But as Paul states, it is on a daily basis that we need to continue that 'saved' process. Woody Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 We are "once saved always saved" ... until we tell God differently. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators John317 Posted April 17, 2008 Moderators Posted April 17, 2008 I think it's more accurate to say that we are "being saved" rather than that we have already been saved. WE already have eternal life in the sense of experiencing a quality of life that is akin to living with God. That begins in the present because of the Holy Spirit's activity and presence in our lives that comes through a personal, faith-based relationship with Jesus Christ. How we may know we have that experience is explained in 1 John, Romans 6 and 8, and Galatians 5. The Israelites were "saved" from Egypt once they escaped from that land. But then they were in the Sinai wilderness. They had been saved, but now they needed further saving. They weren't completely saved. God was in the process of saving them. They still needed to get over the other side of Jordan and into the earthly promised land. Notice that most of them who were "saved" from Egypt died in the desert. But even once they got into the land of Canaan, they still weren't totally saved. God wanted them to get into the heavenly Promised Land. That is the only true "rest" and the ultimate salvation. So there are some aspects of salvation that are past, present, and future. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Woody Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I have found that what is interesting to one may not be interesting to another. I was just curious as to what you found interesting about it. Moderators John317 Posted April 18, 2008 Moderators Posted April 18, 2008 Jesus said "Ye must be born again" what are your person thoughts on this? Feel free to add comments. It is interesting, for one thing, because there appears to be a lot of uncertainty about what it means to be born again and it also shows that there is a significant amount of inconsistency. It also shows that some people did not vote in Part II. The same percentage of people who said they believe they are born again said that they do not believe there is a way to tell if one is born again. Of course this does not mean the same people voted in the first way that voted in the second, but the percentages indicate that at least some did vote that way. While God doesn't give any humans the ability to read human minds and hearts, there are ways that the Bible tells us which are indicators of whether people have been born from above. It is a changed life that takes on the characteristics of Christ and consists of the fruits of the Holy Spirit as given in Galatians 5: 22-24. On the other hand, those who practice the things mentioned in Galatians 5: 19-21 give evidence that they are not led or born of the Spirit. See also 1 John 3: 1-10; 5: 18. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Woody Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I think it turned out just right. We have some pretty smart people on this forum. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Nan Posted April 18, 2008 Moderators Posted April 18, 2008 The last question in the second part is a little ambiguous - does it mean one cannot tell if one's ownself has been reborn, or that one person cannot tell if another has been reborn? That could explain the apparent inconsistency you describe ( I have not voted, have not seen the results). Quote
Woody Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 It says ... OTHERS. At least the way I read it. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Nan Posted April 19, 2008 Moderators Posted April 19, 2008 As I said, I have not voted hence not seen the results - my response was based on the way I read your previous post. If that is confusing ...... :-( Quote
