Lil Star Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Could be bad if we sneezed as we go through a very small town. Would never see it as we passed through. I guess you never miss something you never see! Quote

Yikes- at first read I thought it said, "seasonal URGES" Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Naomi Posted April 17, 2008 Administrators Posted April 17, 2008 Really bad since I returned to the states. Ugh!!! Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Lil Star Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 It's all those little towns you've been passing through that has made it worse since coming back. Did you see any of those small towns as you passed through or did the sneeze take over? Amelia, I hope you have not or are not going to be taking any long trips in the allergy season? You could end up missing all those smaller towns... Ya know? Quote
Administrators Naomi Posted April 17, 2008 Administrators Posted April 17, 2008 Then I have serious problems. The very small village in which I live would easily be missed if a person sneezed. aldona Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 How are everyone's allergies doing this year? Here is my theory...and it is only my observation, I don't have any proof... THEORY: "Adventists are more likely to suffer allergies than the general population." This came into my mind once when I was scratching my head trying to work out what food to prepare for a group of fellow Adventists who were all coming to my place for Sabbath lunch. In the group of about half a dozen people, there were allergies to wheat, soy, peanuts, mushrooms, and those who were not vegan were also allergic to either milk or egg. Here is another couple of observations that I have made: OBSERVATION 1: Products made with gluten (wheat protein) feature very prominently in the world of Adventist vegetarian food products, and thus in the SDA diet. OBSERVATION 2: I know an awful lot of SDA's with celiac disease (allergy to gluten = wheat protein). Not just self-diagnosed "I feel funny if I eat bread" wheat intolerance or something thought up by someone reading their eyes or palm, but real medically-proven, biopsy-diagnosed celiac disease. Coincidence? I think not. Is there something we are not quite doing right in the Adventist way of eating that makes us more prone to allergies? Any of my medical colleagues want to take this up? I'm not an allergist, but someone needs to do more research here. aldona Quote www.asrc.org.au (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Melbourne)Helping over 2000 refugees & asylum seekers each monthIMSLP/Petrucci Music LibraryThe Public Domain Music Score Library - Free Sheet Music DownloadsLooking for classical sheet music? Lil Star Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I think I've been there! I've sneezed my way through a lot of those smaller villages! Did you see me as I was passing? Oh wait! You weren't even there! Quote
Administrators Gail Posted April 17, 2008 Author Administrators Posted April 17, 2008 I don't know about Adventists vs. the rest of the general population, Aldona, but I'm willing to bet that allergies are just more common these days, period. My daughter-in-law who is neither vegetarian nor Adventist, has intolerance to dairy and wheat. My family is strung right through will allergy-laden folks, and they come from either Mormon or atheistic backgrounds. I do agree with you about the gluten! I think that Adventists tend to eat far more than they need. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Lil Star Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I never had allergies until I went to stay with my in laws way back when. That is when my allergies started. When my husband got out of the Army and came home we moved out of his parents house. I still had the allergies and they have never left me. Quote
Amelia Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I read an article recently that speculated that the overcleanliness of Americans was causing more allergies and asthma. Lil Star Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I read an article recently that speculated that the overcleanliness of Americans was causing more allergies and asthma. LOL- probably because we like our things nice and clean! But, doesn't everyone? I heard that cigarette smoke can cause allergies AND asthma. I am sure my children have asthma because their father decided he would smoke in the house when I had been asking him not to. Thank goodness both of us didn't do that nasty habit. I used to make my friends stand outside the house until I knew the smoke smell was gone from their clothing. Not all of it would leave but most of it would. If not then I would just stand outside with them. I totally despise the smell of that! YUCKY!!! Quote
Lil Star Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Ever wonder why they call it hay fever and not something else? Something that is more related to what is wrong? I mean, do we really run a fever with it? Does it have anything related to Hay? Makes one really wonder, doesn't it? Quote

Lil Star Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I love the smell of a freshly mowed lawn, just can't handle the after effects of sneezing! I have also noticed that every time I take a step outside I will sneeze twice. Not once, not three times but twice. What is up with that?! Quote
Lil Star Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 I will have to hold your hand on that one as I sometimes feel that way as well. Strange how some will only come out and post when there is a way they can take it personal on the open board for all to read and try to 'egg on' someone in order to cause a thread closing or something similar knowing they will cause the responding party to look bad. olger Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 Allergies are kinda rough..but if I omit wheat, corn and dairy during Spring it helps a lot. Trouble is, wheat & corn are staples for a vegetarian. Dairy, I've already permanently let go of.. sniffling olger Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
