Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted April 30, 2008 Members Posted April 30, 2008 NaNoWriMo is coming up in November. Start thinking of ideas for a 50,000 word novel (approx 175 pages) to be written in 30 days (November). No....you don't get a monetary award, but you might surprise yourself at what you can do! It can be drama, comedy, biographical, etc. I've never tried it, but I have friends who've done it, and actually turned out some pretty good work! Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Administrators Gail Posted April 30, 2008 Administrators Posted April 30, 2008 I think you should do it about life on a discussion forum like this! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted April 30, 2008 Author Members Posted April 30, 2008 yeah...there's comedy, tragedy, autobiography, science fiction, how-to's, psychology, and other genres!! D. Allan Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Sounds interesting. What happens with it when its finished? Have you started an outline? Would love to read yours and Gail's! Neil's would be good too! dab Quote dAb O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted April 30, 2008 Author Members Posted April 30, 2008 when it's done you send it in to the NaNoWriMo folks who verify that it is 50,000 words. You do need to sign up for it here http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/hownanoworks Their website gives the details. I think most everyone here would have some good ideas. We could sign up as Mrs. Gray and have a composite of everyone's ideas. LOL Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Moderators LynnDel Posted April 30, 2008 Moderators Posted April 30, 2008 You write the first chapter, Pam, and I'll write the second! I've wanted to try NaNoWriMo for years, but November is not a good month for me to be spending all my time writing. If I made it NaJuWriMo, that would work better (stay inside and write while the July temps are in the 100s). I once started a story about a single lady who found an abandoned baby on her doorstep and decided not to notify the authorities. It got quite interesting! I wonder how many people "cheat" and start writing ahead of time... Quote LD
Amelia Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 LOL, I was just going to suggest writing it early. Who would know? Administrators Naomi Posted April 30, 2008 Administrators Posted April 30, 2008 Would it be cheating to write it early?? I wonder how many people really do that and just add it to the site. I did it one year and started the second time but life got in the way and dropped out. It's intense! Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Neil D Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Neil's maybe written in limerick form with pirate slang... Why are you to write it out in ONE month? Who's gonna know if you do the outline and fill in some detail ahead of time....? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
D. Allan Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 There be a dearth o' good pirate novels, these days. Write the whole kit n'kaboodle in pirate-slang limericks. Oughta make the best sellers. :-) Vikram Seth, wrote a whole novel in sonnets. Rhyme and everything! "The Golden Gate," (1986), 307 pages of sonnets! This Nov. if you write 5 days a week, = 25 days = 2000 wds/day. At 34 words per min. one hr. per day = 2040 Two hrs./ day at 17 wds/min. That's doable, I suppose. (Esp. if you have an outline, and been thinking about the characters) Quote dAb O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

Lessee, when did I read that one? Some other lifetime, I think. As to a book in pirate-slang limericks - how many readers would get past the first chapter? Quote LD
D. Allan Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 It could become tedious, rhythmically. One character could always speak in limericks. Maybe the town fool/clown or idiot/savant! Only made it half-way through the novel written in sonnets. Quote dAb O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
