Neil D Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Ever wonder what it's like to be a man in a room full of professional and capable women? Yeah, mob mentality, and not that much fun either... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
Moderators LynnDel Posted May 1, 2008 Moderators Posted May 1, 2008 Poor Neil. Let me get you a hanky. There, there. Feel better now? My line of work - elementary teaching - is dominated by females. The largest school in which I taught had nearly 30 teachers, with only three male teachers. They never complained about their minority status or seemed to suffer from it. From my observation, the problems a white male faces doesn't compare to the challenges a minority female often meets in the professional world, especially since racial hiring quotas are no longer directing personnel decisions. That was back when being a job-searching white male was not a good position to occupy. Quote LD
cricket Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Ever wonder why there's a mob mentality amongst women in the first place?? Gee, there's got to be a reason. Quote
Moderators Nan Posted May 1, 2008 Moderators Posted May 1, 2008 Ever wonder why there's a mob mentality amongst women in the first place?? Gee, there's got to be a reason. Does that start when they learn to go to the bathroom in flocks? Sorry Cricket, I know that was not the intent of your post....do you see the development of that mob mentality as having arisen out of a defensive need, or just as an outworking of normal female characteristics? Administrators Naomi Posted May 1, 2008 Administrators Posted May 1, 2008 Somehow I think it's all in how we approach our 'lot in life' I have a dear friend who is most definitely a minority, a female, in a male dominated profession/society: the legal profession. Having risen to a very high "office" she will tell everyone that it's all about your attitude, not their attitude. As a female who spent her life in a profession dominated by, and occupied by, macho males, I can attest to being treated as a dumb blond among other things. On-the-other hand, the guys often had their share of put downs, pass over’s, and generally treated in cruel and unfair ways. Just as young children will find something different about a child and zoom in on it, in often more cruel ways, aggressive, adult workplace bullies (male & females of all races) will display the same behavior. Just my 2 cents Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
