Dr. Shane Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Hillary Clinton is making the case that she would be better to defeat John McCain in the general election because more white people without a high school diploma are voting for her. Basically she is saying that she is getting the stupid-white-guy* vote and since there are a lot of stupid white people out there, Obama can't win without their votes. Here is a good example. Democratic country keeps its distance from Obama Quote: Like most people in Mingo County, West Virginia, Leonard Simpson is a lifelong Democrat. But given a choice between Barack Obama and John McCain in November, the 67-year-old retired coalminer would vote Republican. “I heard that Obama is a Muslim and his wife’s an atheist,” said Mr Simpson, drawing on a cigarette outside the fire station in Williamson, a coalmining town of 3,400 people surrounded by lush wooded hillsides. Mr Simpson’s remarks help explain why Mr Obama is trailing Hillary Clinton, his Democratic rival, by 40 percentage points ahead of Tuesday’s primary election in the heavily white and rural state, according to recent opinion polls... West Virginia is hostile territory for Mr Obama because it has few of the African-Americans and affluent, college-educated whites who provide his strongest support. *(I am not saying all white people without a high school diploma are stupid - some are self-educated and quite successful, but as a general rule there is a reason they dropped out of high school) Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 I tend to doubt the uneducated, white, Democrats are getting their news from FOXNews or Rush Limbaugh. More likely they are getting it from their union hall, local bar stool or church pulpit. "Stupid White People" is just saying it without political correctness. It is the elephant in the living room. It is what everyone is thinking but no one dares to say. Stupid may not be the best word to use. The word "simple" is probably most accurate. These are people who probably have never read the US Constitution, don't know the role of the Federal Reserve, don't understand the difference between the UN and NATO or realize that Mexico buys as many US made products as the US buys Mexican made products. They are simple. They don't grasp the issues. Perhaps not because they can't grasp them but because they don't want to. They would rather worry about which teams are headed to the playoffs than whether or not the market is a bull or a bear. They are more concerned about what they can barbecue on Sunday than who is going to be on Meet The Press. So it is better to say they are simple, rather than stupid. That said, these are the folks voting for Hillary. They are the ones that don't grasp the issues either because they can't or are more concerned about other things. Either way, it doesn't say a lot for Hillary. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Kountzer Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I heard a talking head on one of the Sunday morning political shows say that Hillary has forgotten that Bill won the nomination back in '92 without garnering much of the same type of white vote. Moderators Bravus Posted May 12, 2008 Moderators Posted May 12, 2008 Do you think it's a reasonable generalisation to say that Hillary is winning states in the primaries that are much more likely to go to a Republican than a Democrat in the general, whereas Barack (I try to use either both first names or both last names) is winning the seats that are likely to go blue, plus some that need to move? Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted May 12, 2008 Author Posted May 12, 2008 Hillary won Pennsylvania and Ohio and Barrak will need to win those states in the general election. However, the contests have been among Democrats for the most part. So to say Barrack can't win a state in the general because he didn't win it in the primary isn't really true. If more Democrats come out to vote in Ohio than Republicans, Barrack could win Ohio in November. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

cricket Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Shane, Shane, Shane. Obama's first name is spelled "Barack" not "Barrak". Also, the word "stupid" is only used by those whom the descriptor fits. Quote

Dr. Shane Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 Exit polls have clearly shown that simple white folks are supporting Hillary and the higher educated white folks are supporting Barack. Dr. Shane Posted May 14, 2008 Author Posted May 14, 2008 I still have not decided who I am going to vote for in the Fall. I do believe Hillary is more qualified than Obama but I also believe the character matters. I trust Obama more than I trust Hillary and that is why I voted for him in the Primary and Texas caucus. At this point, I trust Obama more than I trust McCain but only slightly. Many white racists don't trust black people so it makes sense they wouldn't vote for Obama. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
