God, do you love me now that I can dance?

God, will you forgive me if I can't dance well?

I'm not aware of any Scriptural support for "Righteousness by Avoidance of Polka" either.

When I was a child (in the 40s) upstairs from our church social was a group having a square dance. My sister and I went with the pastor's children (who were younger than us) and stood inside the room and watched the dancers until their mom found us and said, "I'm ashamed of you, I wouldn't expect that from you"; making me feel guilty.(Hurrying us downstairs of course)

I have often thought about this.

what was the pastors wife ashamed of? what was she expecting from you? Did the pastors wife know you enough to have lofty holy faulse expectations of you? Did she fancy u as a saint who knows not to watch dance(whats that all about?). Did she think dancing is so blasphemouse that to even glance at it would render you as a ... huh... dancer? Did the pastors wife ignore or black out the part where King David danced? Did she rip out Psalms 150 that commands us to dance in worship and praise? Of course what u saw wasnt what i just described(im assuming). but it threated her enough to lash out at a child who wasnt even her brood.

All progress in the Spiritual Life is knowing and Loving GOD

"there is non upon earth that I desire besides YOU" PS 73:25

That perspective changes EVERYTHING-suffering and adversity are the means that makes us hungry for GOD. Disapointments will wean us away wordly occupations. Even sin(when repented of) becomes a mechanism to push us closer to HIM as we experience His Love and Forgiveness.

I have a funny dancing story too...

For a while my mother started going to a Seventh-Day Church of God church instead of an Adventist. They loved their tamborines and their shouting and their drums. I used this as an excuse to get out of church I usually claimed I had a headache, I'm not saying I didn't.

One day they invited us to a party I don't remember the occasion. I spent most of the time hanging around with the younger kids but I finally went upstairs to see what was happening. It was a scene straight out of a club or dancehall. I stood there watching them a little fixated because I had never seen Christians act like that. (Most of my dancing experience has been watching club scenes in rap music videos.) Then they said in almost a "demonic" way "join in nishaun," or "come dance nishaun" or something like that.

I made a connection with the way they acted in church to the way they acted in secular parties. I am not claiming to be better than anyone, I don't watch rap videos anymore but I still listen to rap music. Once you see or go to a dance club it is easier to see why that music should not be in church. The question is are people feeling the Holy Spirit or are they feeling the beat of the music. The Holy Spirit is a still small voice and can easily be drowned out by loud insobriety.

Sad.
