Guest truthseeker007 Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Just a thought. Is the keeping a sabbath about obedience to God, or is it a day of rest for the benefit of man? Jesus said that sabbath was made for man. In other words, if the sabbath is meant to bless man, is a legalistic explanation of temporary sabbath keeping correct? It seems to me that a legalistic explanation of the sabbath is contrary to the scriptures when it is stated, that the law of God will be written in men s hearts. Quote

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 19, 2008 Administrators Posted May 19, 2008 "The Sabbath was made for man" expresses the idea that it was to be a benefit to mankind, but most definitely not in a selfish or self-centered sense of "what's in it for me". It was a time to set aside ones own agenda, ones own pursuits of gain and commerce, seeking ones own blessings or satisfying ones own needs and is to be a time to be "other-minded". (See Isaiah 58) The highest form of worship of God is to be or give a blessing to others. Jesus exemplified this in His demonstrated or acted out 7 "parables" of Sabbath healing. He went so far as to seek out opportunities to heal on the Sabbath. Tom Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. Neil D Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Tom, Agree with most everything that was said...However, I do have a tiny thing that is often over looked, so is readily forgiven... You said- The highest form of worship of God is to be or give a blessing to others. As I have said, I generally agree with this sentiment. But recent events have cause me to make an addendum that is often overlooked. That is, to allow one the gift of blessing others. IOWs, you may be on the recieving end of the blessing, but you have the power to superceed it, stop it, or impart some greater blessing..Instead, allow the blessing to come to you so that it blesses the giver as well... This allows a rippling effect of blessings thru the human race...as one gives to another, the blessing and joy of giving reverberates...Remember, Jesus recieved a blessing from Mary, as she poured oil the week before He was crucified. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 20, 2008 Administrators Posted May 20, 2008 Of course! It brings to mind John Lennon's song "Imagine". Imagine a world where everyone is of a giving mind and everyone gratefully receives what is given - a world of competitive kindnesses. Tom Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."
