olger Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I went and done it. I sold Festus this morning to a fellow motocrosser. We're gonna miss him around here. He was good-natured and dependable. A bit on the heavy side but strong as a mule -- in fact as strong as 68 of them. He always had that sick yellow color, sure, but he never got sick. In our five-year friendship, he only asked for a couple hydraulic lines, a battery and a bit of diesel fuel. He worked equally well in the snow & cold and had the heart of a lion (well a Cat anyway). He wasn't the cleanest friend I have had, in fact he tended to leave tracks everywhere he went. My wife wouldn't allow him in the house for fear he would mess up the carpet, so he had to stay outside all the time. I felt kind of bad about that but he never complained. And, even though he carried a blade wherever he went he always seemed good natured to me. The low point in our friendship was when he got stuck in the dismal swamp one time. That was probably my fault, and we did get him out with the help of another Lepidoptera. If it can be considered a fault, he was pushy. Real pushy. But pushiness can come in handy when you need a pile of dirt here - moved over there. He pushed down trees, a corncrib and even a groundhog one time. They all lost (including the hog). He was very versatile too, able to work six different ways. He went forward easily and backwards too if needed. Not only was he pushy, he was persuasive. He changed my mind about two things. * You see, I never cared for cats but Festus showed me that not all Cats are bad. * He also changed my opinion of heavy metal. I can't stand the stuff normally, but Festus broadened my horizons. I appreciate heavy metal thanks to Festus,. In fact, I may have to replace him with something just to ease the pain. What color should I go with ? sad olger Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
carolaa Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I'm so sorry for your loss. I know several people who are into motocross, and I find it enjoyable to watch myself. But maybe you should consider not replacing him. The son of our friend was killed last year doing motocross. The father has suffered a broken collarbone as well as other injuries doing motocross. Another guy tore up his knee (3 of 4 ligaments) in a motocross accident. I know how hard it is for the die hards to give it up, but sometimes it's the better part of wisdom. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted June 9, 2008 Moderators Posted June 9, 2008 Read close, Carol - olger has a motocross bike, but Festus wasn't him... I'm thinking Festus was a bulldozer. Unless of course olger is into the extreme sport of bulldozer motocross. Sorry for your loss, dude. Quote Truth is important
Moderators LynnDel Posted June 9, 2008 Moderators Posted June 9, 2008 Awwwww... It sounds like you really miss him and his purr. How much do you think Festus misses you? Quote LD
Woody Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 How do you plan to bulldoze your way around any more. Oh well .... I'm sure you will figure out a way. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted June 9, 2008 Moderators Posted June 9, 2008 Hmmmm.... Sounds like a 68-horsepower Caterpillar bulldozer with a blade. Good story, Olger! Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Administrators Naomi Posted June 9, 2008 Administrators Posted June 9, 2008 Dear Sad Olger, Perhaps you should go with GREEN ... the color of money. After all you sold your good friend for money. Or, silver ... I hope you got more than 30 pieces of silver. Oops, haven't check the price of silver lately. Perhaps I should retract that statement ........... All-in-all, we know "sold" your friend. I'm rather shocked Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
olger Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Here's Festus. Good guesses, Bravus and Jeannie. I put a downpayment on a LS180 New Holland Skid loader on Friday. That should ease the pain of seperation. olger Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Guest gem Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Good story. Well done. Skidder? Do you need to haul logs? Quote

olger Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Welp.. I've had a few beams in my eye and it clouded my vision considerably. Couldn't get them out until I asked God for help. He is the best beam-remover in the universe. Howdy Gem. What I gots in mind is a skid-steer loader. Usta have one and I think we could use another one.
