Robert Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 My world view comes from my understanding of the Bible. If (and I don't doubt it) God made everything perfect (meaning immortal and selfless) then anything outside this has to be false. We are the only world that fell. Quote
nuff sed Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 IMO God will not allow mankind to take "sin" to another inhabited planet. My understanding is that they have "passed" their test so....."Keep looking , guys",,,except that you are not going to find anything! Quote
Robert Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 IMO God will not allow mankind to take "sin" to another inhabited planet. My understanding is that they have "passed" their test so....."Keep looking , guys",,,except that you are not going to find anything! It's like God has quarantined our world from the sinless worlds. Just looking at the planets around our sun makes you think that He was in the middle of creating them, but had to stop....Maybe because of the fall? I mean think about it, God wouldn't let Lucifer put his system of "self" into practice while in heaven. Sure, on paper the love of self sounds wonderful, but put into practice, well...you see what his system based on selfishness yields. So yeah, God has quarantined us. Can't blame Him at all! We would ruin His sinless universe.... BTW..All this UFO stuff showed up when Hollywood started making sci-fi movies. So good imaginations and maybe the old serpent himself toying with folks is why you hear of it all the time? Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted June 22, 2008 Moderators Posted June 22, 2008 None of these (speculative rather than Biblical) arguments preclude life on Mars. It could still be unfallen, sinless life - or much more likely it will be microscopic life with no propensity to sin. If there's no life on Mars now, it's quite possible there was in the past but conditions have changed. If there is life on Mars, it shows something about the creativeness and fruitfulness of God. Incidentally, there are two other places in our solar system where life is likely to exist (I just wrote a school science textbook chapter on this issue this year) - more likely than Mars, in fact. They are Europa and Titan. Look it up if you're interested. Quote Truth is important
Dr. Shane Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 I have been meaning to start a similar thread in Origins which I plan to do, but it is a bit different than this topic so let me comment about this here. It is hard to know what our universe was like before sin and how exactly sin affected our solar system. We know here on our own planet that lions went from being herbivores to carnivores and plants started to grow thorns after the fall. Mars may have had life on it at one time that was relocated after the fall or Mars may have been created to have life on it at a later time. Science is hoping to discover that the awesomeness of life really isn't that awesome after all. By finding conditions on Mars that seem to indicate life existed there in the past, they hope to show that the probability of natural evolution isn't that high after all. jasd Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 >>BTW..All this UFO stuff showed up when Hollywood started making sci-fi movies. So good imaginations and maybe the old serpent himself toying with folks is why you hear of it all the time?<< Umm, unless there is more to “Hollywood”, you might want to rethink the above... Per “the old serpent himself”, perhaps. The Gita of the Upanishads, and more specifically, the relating of the Mahabharata War, mention flying crafts capable of interplanetary and/or interstellar flight and are dealt with as commonplace. Moreover, ‘flying shields’ (saucers?) have been noted for millennia, to wit: “329 BC Alexander the Great records two great silver shields, spitting fire around the rims in the sky that dived repeatedly at his army as they were attempting a river crossing. The action so panicked his elephants, horses, and men they had to abandon the river crossing until the following day. 99 BC Rome: In Tarquinia, there fell things like a flaming torch in different places from the sky. Towards sunset, a round object like a globe, or round or circular shield took its path in the sky, from west to east. AD 98 Rome: Conrad Wolfhart, Lycothenes, a medieval writer reports, “At sunset, a burning shield passed over the sky at. It came sparkling from the west and passed over to the east.” AD 584 France: The Bishop of Tours in France, is perplexed by curious "domes and golden globes that raced across the sky".” Many, many more reports of “shields, globes, or saucers” flying through the skies exist throughout earth’s written histories. If one reads carefully, even the Fatima event bespeaks or hints at a UFO incident. Or, mebbe, no one then and now, knew or knows the difference between comets, meteors, weather balloons, swamp gas, or the planet Venus, etc - and ‘flying ships’. The above stated, let us not forget that Holy Writ tells us that the Lord has “flying chariots”. And why not? Mebbe, there’s a Super-NASCAR in the heavenlies... with it being held on a Super Jubilee cycle, or somthin’. :-o Quote
