(AP) -- Former University of Portland defender Stephanie Cox has been named to the United States women's soccer team for this summer's Olympic Games At 22, she will be the youngest player on the US team. At first it appeared she would not be chosen even though she played for the United States in the Women's World cup last year. Pilots coach Garrett Smith said Cox, who played for him as Stephanie Lopez before she married in December, has been through two hectic years. But on June 11, US defender Cat Whitehill tore a knee ligament in South Korea. Cox was called to fill in, and yesterday she was placed in the 18-member team roster for Beijing. She says it all will be happening soon, and it may take some time for it to sink in.
