Woody Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 I live in a religious part of the nation. I frequently see 'religious signs' along the road or on personal property. I thought I might list just a few that I've seen recently. Which one do you like best ... "Obey and Live" "Prepare to Meet Thy God" "God is Love" Have you seen any religious signs recently? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Amelia Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 There are maybe 3 that I can think of in my general area. One is a giant 2 sided billboard in Washington on I-5. Another is in eastern Oregon on the side of a barn. Another is down southern Oregon way but I don't know if it's still there. I just remember it from my college days. The most famous religious sign was in downtown Portland. Early pic of the sign Taking it down in 1980 This neon sign read, "Jesus The light of the world". First came "Jesus", then it switched to "Is the light of the world". And then the the star would fill up and twinkle. That sign shown over Burnside street for years until it came down in 1980 with the mission building was sold and it became a nightclub. Woody Posted July 13, 2008 Author Posted July 13, 2008 Oh Yeah. I remember the old "The Pope is AntiChrist" on I-5 near Neil Land. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
rush4hire Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Oh Yeah. I remember the old "The Pope is AntiChrist" on I-5 near Neil Land. Such a message should not be allowed. It wreaks of fanaticism and works contrary to the cause of God in this age. It's like mockery. Quote I cant make a sig with 30 chrs

I agree that even if true, it is a very poor way to communicate the truth about that issue and is actually counterproductive. That sort of thing actually works to Satan's advantage because it exposes people to the idea under the worst conditions and sets them up to reject it out of hand because of the fanaticism they associate with the sign. It kind of builds up immunity against the truth. For the same reason Jesus wouldn't let the demons announce that He was the Messiah. Neil D Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Oh Yeah. I remember the old "The Pope is AntiChrist" on I-5 near Neil Land. Um...where is this? Are you talking about the one in florida? ....Or southern Oregon? If the later, that has been taken down...and when I find those people, I would like to skew and quarter them.... .....Ok, maybe not litterally skew and quarter them, but by the time they got thru with my verbal tongue lashing, they would know that other human beings, especially adventists are embarrassed to be associated with bottom feeders/scum buckets like them. There is absolutely no reason to place this stuff publically without some firm foundation...and there is talk of different theology/revelation that doesn't allow for the "pope is antichrist" diatribe.... Woody Posted July 16, 2008 Author Posted July 16, 2008 Oh YES Neil. To be specific ... The large billboard that said ... "THE POPE IS ANTICHRIST" ... was located just a short distance after the last Medford Exit going North on I-5 . It was placed there by the Historic Adventist Church ... an offshoot of the Seventh day Adventist Church. I would imagine that most thought it came from the SDAs because in small letters it gave a reference to Ellen White in the Great Controversy I believe it was. But then ... that's the State of Jefferson .... Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators John317 Posted July 16, 2008 Moderators Posted July 16, 2008 ..and there is talk of different theology/revelation that doesn't allow for the "pope is antichrist" diatribe.... Is your emphasis on the part about "diatribe" or about the pope being an antiChrist power? Certainly there is both. There is no place for a diatribe. But that is different from a Bible study on the subject of the antiChrist. I have no doubt that there is a different theology even among some SDAs which offers a totally different view of the papacy and the identity of such things as Babylon and the antiChrist. These things are bound to happen and are predictable-- that is, if we know history and have studied the prophecies and the writings of Ellen White. What she said would happen is in fact happening, both within and outside the church. A good book to read on these subjects is called, Last Day Events.
