In Psa 40:5 and Psa 141:9.

It sounds like some sort of device to set a trap or snare.

Job 18:9 The Gin shall take him by the heel,....

Isa 8:14 ....for a gin and for a snare....

Amos 3:5 ....where no gin is for him?....

Any clues or suggestions?

Yes, In the arab/muslim world there is a magical being called gins or genies. They usually hang around lamps and rings. Barbra Eden starred as one in a TV series in the 60's. Blonde hair and blue eyes in the world of arabs!

All progress in the Spiritual Life is knowing and Loving GOD

"there is non upon earth that I desire besides YOU" PS 73:25

That perspective changes EVERYTHING-suffering and adversity are the means that makes us hungry for GOD. Disapointments will wean us away wordly occupations. Even sin(when repented of) becomes a mechanism to push us closer to HIM as we experience His Love and Forgiveness.

That thought had crossed my mind but then WHY would King David, a man of God Jehovah, bring it up?

That would have been like....well, discussing the :<img src='http://clubadventist.com/forums/uploads/default_wee.gif' alt='wee'>: folks of Erin from the lips of Wesley and some of the other early English church reformation leaders.

I know that there are warnings to be watchful of the dragon's lies etc, but to bring magick into the equation, would not seem quite right and therefore my question.

From H6351; a (metallic) sheet (as pounded thin); also a spring net (as spread out like a lamina): - gin, (thin) plate, snare.

lol Thanks Cricket.

I dropped in to withdraw the question.

I found out practically the same thing. It is both a noun and a verb!
