Moderators John317 Posted August 17, 2008 Moderators Posted August 17, 2008 These are some of the verses and remarks that I want to concentrate on. I think you've said some really important things. Quote: 6. Our sinful natures, which we inherited from Adam. See Psalm 51:5; Psalm 58:3. (See also Rom. 5:19,20; Eph. 2:3b; Phil. 3:20,21.) 7. A law, principle, or constant force, dwelling in our sinful natures (indwelling sin in the flesh). This makes us slaves to sin. Therefore, holy living, in and of ourselves, is impossible. See Rom. 7:14, 20-23. (See also Luke 11:39; John 8:31-34.) Note: The first four definitions of sin (#1-4) involve guilt because we choose to commit these sins (guilt involves responsibility or volition). But the last two definitions of sin (#6 & 7), which we all inherit at birth because of the Fall, do not involve guilt (i.e., responsibility) but only condemnation (see Rom. 5:18). While these last two definitions of sin do not involve guilt, they nonetheless make us sinners by nature and, therefore, disqualify us from heaven (see Rom. 5:19; Eph. 2:3b; 1 Cor. 15:50). Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Continued willful sin is a sign that Christ is not our Lord. The only solution is for the person to realize his desperate situation and change who is ruling his life. Study First John, Romans 8, and Galatians 5 and 6. Memorize Gal. 2: 19, 20 and say it to yourself over and over again every day with meaning and understanding. Also make close contact with a brother Christian who loves Jesus and prays and who is willing to pray with you and encourage you whenever you need help. Spend at least 2 hours a day in the Word and on your knees in opening your heart to God in prayer. Don't stop. Jesus will do it. Realize that as long as you are in sincere, faith-based relationship with Jesus Christ, God sees you as righteous as Christ Himself!!!! Picture yourself seated with Jesus in heaven and do not allow your body to be used as instruments of unrighteousness. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted August 17, 2008 Moderators Posted August 17, 2008 I struggled with some sins like that. I struggled and lost every time for about 35 years. I came so close about 3 years ago to giving up. The Lord only gave me the victory when I decided that Jesus was my only hope and my only real life. I had to come to the point where I saw my body and my own life as good as dead and see Him as my only real life. Also I had to exchange Lords-- myself and my desires (my old lord and master) dies, really DIES, and Jesus now becomes my owner. I see my body and its members no longer to be used for Satan's purposes but for Christ's only. I do not want to take my body and use it to glorify Satan and let him use me to slap Jesus in the face. I had to get to the point where I would rather die than commit those sins again. We sin because we love to sin. At least I did. When we really hate sin we will stop it. That means praying that God will give you a deep hatred for sin-- for what it did to Christ and to God. For the way it makes God look bad. What if your sin caused the death of your child? Would you do it? For instance, if you knew that when you sin, someone was going to march your wife or son or daughter out in the front yard and cut their throats like a sheep, would you commit that sin? I really believe we sin because we don't see what it actually did to Jesus Christ. Once we get a good look at that and understand it fully-- have the blinders taken off our eyes-- we won't sin deliberately and intentionally. We do it rather nonchalantly because we think, "Oh well, Jesus paid the price and he will forgive me like he has thousands of times already. What's one or two more sins?" Maybe you don't think quite that way, but many people do-- if they think of it at all. I know because that is where I was for most of my life, and that is after I struggled and studied and even prayed. Why did I keep sinning? Because in my heart and mind, I really loved it. I didn't hate it. I always kept something in reserve. I didn't give Jesus ALL of me. And Jesus must have ALL of us or nothing. He won't accept only a part of us. Does he always forgive when we ask him? Of course. But the problem is not God's forgiveness. The problem is the sin. Every time we commit sin, it changes us and does something to our relationship with Him, just like a man's relationship to his wife is changed by his going to another woman even if the wife does not know about it. Sometimes sins can be such that it takes much prayer by whole congregations before members can get free of them. So I would suggest that you appeal for special prayer. No need to say what about-- only that you need prayer about a special, personal problem that only God must know. I'll be praying for you, my brother. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 17, 2008 Members Posted August 17, 2008 Sometimes what is perceived to be a non-answer is because the core of the answer gets stuck somewhere in the sheer preponderance of verbosity. I tend to skip over the lengthy explanations, diatribes, and/or ruminations because I get lost. But that's okay.... Moderators John317 Posted August 17, 2008 Moderators Posted August 17, 2008 How does it work? Through believing and accepting jesus right now I can have instant salvation. Yes, most definitely. That is what the Bible teaches clearly in such verses as Acts 16: 31; Mark 16: 16; and 1 John 5: 11. But remember that the Bible views salvation as something that begins in the present and will be completed in the future at the resurrection or Second Coming. Quote: What happens after that? In the same way that you received Him, so you are to walk in Him. That means that you continue to accept Him as your Lord and Savior every day of the rest of your life. Quote: I sin and does that sinning change it all and takes away my salvation that was given as a gift? No. See 1 John 1:9-2:2 (New International Version) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. Quote: What are the alternatives? I must come to Jesus after everyday of potentially doing wrong and he needs to give me that gift again? How does it work practically? As long as the believer is in a faith-based, sincere and honest relationship with Christ, and he is repenting of and confessing his sins to God, he may be certain that God does not take the gift away. 1 John 5: 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted August 17, 2008 Moderators Posted August 17, 2008 Romans 8: 1-14-- 1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power[a] of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. 3 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature.[c] So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 4 He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit. 5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. 8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. 9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) 10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life[d] because you have been made right with God. 11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. 12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters,[e] you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature,[f] you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children[g] of God. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted August 17, 2008 Moderators Posted August 17, 2008 1 John 3: 1-10 1 SEE WHAT [[a]an incredible] quality of love the Father has given (shown, bestowed on) us, that we should [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! The reason that the world does not know (recognize, acknowledge) us is that it does not know (recognize, acknowledge) Him. 2 Beloved, we are [even here and] now God's children; it is not yet disclosed (made clear) what we shall be [hereafter], but we know that when He comes and is manifested, we shall [as God's children] resemble and be like Him, for we shall see Him [c]just as He [really] is. 3 And everyone who has this hope [resting] on Him cleanses (purifies) himself just as He is pure (chaste, undefiled, guiltless). 4 Everyone who commits (practices) sin is guilty of lawlessness; for [that is what] sin is, lawlessness (the breaking, violating of God's law by transgression or neglect--being unrestrained and unregulated by His commands and His will). 5 You know that He appeared in visible form and became Man to take away [upon Himself] sins, and in Him there is no sin [[d]essentially and forever]. 6 No one who abides in Him [who lives and remains [e]in communion with and in obedience to Him--deliberately, knowingly, and [f]habitually] commits (practices) sin. No one who [habitually] sins has either seen or known Him [recognized, perceived, or understood Him, or has had an experiential acquaintance with Him]. 7[g]Boys (lads), let no one deceive and lead you astray. He who practices righteousness [who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life] is righteous, even as He is righteous. 8 [but] he who commits sin [who practices evildoing] is of the devil [takes his character from the evil one], for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done]. 9 No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and [h]habitually] practices sin, for God's nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God. 10 By this it is made clear who take their nature from God and are His children and who take their nature from the devil and are his children: no one who does not practice righteousness [who does not conform to God's will in purpose, thought, and action] is of God; neither is anyone who does not love his brother (his fellow believer in Christ). Amplified Version. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. LifeHiscost Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 And Jesus must have ALL of us or nothing. He won't accept only a part of us. There may be more than one way of experiencing deliverance. I believe one needs to give all of one's self to Jesus. However that means, at least to me, the warts I have along with the spritually sculpted areas of my life that the Holy Spirit has had greater success in preparing for the heavenly home. If it were not so, it would seem this counsel would be unnecessary. "....looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith..." Hebrews 12:2 KJV I happen to believe, re: faith, Jesus has successfully started and continued to add to the faith I have as I have made effort to continue close to the Word. OTOH, there is no way I'm satisfied the faith given me is complete. However that means, at least to me, the warts I have along with the spritually sculpted areas of my life that the Holy Spirit has had greater success in preparing for the heavenly home.... Excellent point. It's only by giving him all areas of our life that He's able to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We shouldn't think we can possibly give him a part of ourselves that He's not already fully aware of. In fact, I'm convinced that it's the the warts that he especially wants from us. LifeHiscost Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 can we lose eternal life because we don't rid ourselves of wilful sinning? May I suggest there is no sin, small or large, one can rid by striving, whether in earnest or not. If Jesus did nothing of Himself, why would we believe we can master ourselves in the battle with the enemy. "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12 KJV "Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner." Hey doctorJ, I want you to know that I'm praying for you and will continue praying for you and for whatever it is that's troubling you and causing you to have this struggle. Let me assure you that Jesus Christ is very well aware and that He sends His Spirit and His angels to help you to think right and do right. Without God's help, none of us would have a desire to obey God and let Him direct our life. Do you have a friend in the local church or perhaps even a nonAdventist Christian who you trust and who loves Jesus Christ? It would be wonderful if you could find such a person who you could contact either by phone or by personally visiting whenever you feel the need of spiritual or moral support. How about the local pastor? I pray that God will lead you to someone who cares and is willing to spend time with you in prayer and study. Yes, by all means pour out your heart-felt needs and desires to Jesus and the Father. You don't need to kneel down or stop what you are doing in order to communicate with Him. You might say things like, "Jesus, stay with me Lord. I feel so weak today. I feel so helpless. Please send all your angels to help me and give me strength to resist the temptations and overcome sin. Thank you, Jesus, for hearing me right now and for already answering." You pray something like that as often as you need to. God hears, my friend. It sounds to me that in some ways you don't want to give up some things in your life and that you realize that full commitment to Christ will necessitate a lot of big changes in your life. All I can say to you is, don't worry about that aspect-- don't worry about what the future holds in terms of changes in your life. You just live minute by minute in fellowship and union with Christ. He will take care of the future. He is well able! Just put your hand in His by faith-- ask Him to change you so that you will want Him completely--- tell him the truth; He won't be shocked; He knows the truth already. We can't even want what is good or right without Him. So tell him that you feel a desire for things that are wrong but you want Him to change your heart and thinking and desires so you will think good thoughts and have pure desires. If you have a hymnal and a small Testament, keep them with you and open them and sing a song or read a passage of Scripture whenever you can. You will be amazed at what a difference it will make in the way you think and feel. Keep doing it. Do not give up, no matter how often you fall or what sins you have committed. God is in the process of answering our prayers even when we are not aware of it. Just remember, however, that the more time you spend in prayer and in the Word, and more you resist and overcome sin by the Holy Spirit, the stronger your spiritual muscles will become. This in turn will bring glory and praise to Jesus Christ your Savior and to God your Father who loves you with an infinite love. May the peace of God be on you and all around you, brother!! Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Maybe I am just not understanding what I must do. Not to suggest we would, for everyone, expect to see the same sins besetting us, however it does appear there might be in some individuals' lives, the same propensity for the same sins for an extended period of time. Not for anyone that it must be, but for some a reality. Would that circumstance for those who found it to be true of themselves, be able to claim this promise if so motivated? I believe it to be so. "Then Peter came and said to Him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven." Matthew 18:22,23 NASB Some of us get stuck on one particular sin at times. All of us have the malady of being sinful, therefore all need that suggested figure of 490 times of forgiveness to fulfill all righteousness. If we are asked to forgive that much, can you imagine how willing our Father in heaven is willing to forgive us, that we may be assured that we have free and constant access through the blood of Jesus, to the throne of grace. "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9 KJV "Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins." Acts 5:31 KJV I just read the other day what Jesus says we need to do to advance the kingdom of God on earth. "Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?" Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent." John 6:29 (NASB) Praise God for what He's already done in your life. Regards! Maybe I am just not understanding what I must do. The answers given by my friends here are all about prayer, philosophy, bible study, promises, resisting temptation, etc. Sure these are important, but Paul says you can have all these and more and if you don't have charity, you're nothing, (1 Cor. 13:1-8). Charity is where care about others and keep loving others and doing good things for them constantly, and keep sharing your faith. If you're caring about other people's problems, your problems won't be so intimidating: [color:#BF0000]Phil. 2:3 ...let each esteem other better than themselves. 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. And read this --> Christ's Object Lessons - Chapter 12, "Asking to Give" In order to keep from committing sin, you need to stay so busy helping others that you just won't have time to sin. That's how the prophets did it: [color:#BF0000]Job 29:12 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and [him that had] none to help him. 29:13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. Job 31:19 If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; 31:20 If his loins have not blessed me, and [if] he were [not] warmed with the fleece of my sheep; James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world. If you read Desire of Ages, you see that's how Jesus did it too. He was born with a nature just like ours so we can do what He did to keep ourselves from sinning just like He did: [color:#BF0000]Isaiah 58:6 [is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 58:7 [is it] not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? 58:8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward. 58:9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I [am]. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; 58:10 And [if] thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness [be] as the noon day: 58:11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. And the point in loving others is to lead them to Christ, to give you opportunities to share your faith. It has been said the 3 basic disciplines of Christianity are symbolized by the 3 things in the Holy Place. The incense = prayer/praise ---> "And the smoke of the incense, [which came] with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand", (Rev. 8:4). The bread is the Word ---> "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.", (Matt. 4:4). The candlestick is sharing your faith ---> "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.", (Matt. 5:14). Care about people. Pray for them. Do stuff for them. Love them. Appreciate them. Be a friend. Be a good listener. Do for them whatever they will let you do. Practice on friends and family. Get involved in a house-to-house ministry or some other outreach. Share what the Lord has revealed to you with others online, like at http://www.christian-forum.net/ If you make good money or have a business, support your favorite outreach ministry or missionary work. And give food and jobs to homeless people and love them. Pray for and seek out opportunities to do these things. Everyone needs to share their faith to keep themselves out of trouble. You can have unlimited potential if you just let the Lord love the world through you. Quote I cant make a sig with 30 chrs
Yoda Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Saying salvation exists only as a carrot to lure back to the stick of the Law, some do. Liars, they are. Know Christ they don't. Listen, we won't. Should you? Hmmmm. (Responding in general to subject, this is.) Quote for what you wish, be careful.
rush4hire Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Saying salvation exists only as a carrot to lure back to the stick of the Law, some do. Liars, they are. Know Christ they don't. Listen, we won't. Should you? Hmmmm. (Responding in general to subject, this is.) As clever as that picture is, there's a problem. The carrot is sweet, but so is God's Law: [color:#BF0000]Psalms 19:7 The law of the LORD [is] perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD [is] sure, making wise the simple. 19:8 The statutes of the LORD [are] right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD [is] pure, enlightening the eyes. 19:9 The fear of the LORD [is] clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD [are] true [and] righteous altogether. 19:10 More to be desired [are they] than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Also this: If Christ saves you from sin, then what does He save you to? What is sin? Sin is breaking God's law, (1 John 3:4). So if you are saved from breaking God's law, then you must be saved to opposite of breaking God's law, which is keeping God's law. This looks like another attempt to justify those who want to break God's law, that is they want to continue in sin and not feel so bad. Is that it? I know there's quite a big demand for such teaching. False prophets who justify sin will get alot of praise in this world: [color:#BF0000]Luke 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. 2 Tim. 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; Heaps of teachers. Heaps upon heaps of itching ears. The greatest among the false teachers shine and receive great honor and recognition from the whole sin loving world. And they might even get to meet the Pope himself and kiss his hand and offer him gift! Is this what you want? To unite with the evangelicals. Do you want to enjoy worldly honor and fame and the pleasures of sin for a season or to suffer affliction with the people of God? (Hebrews 11:24-25) You can't have both. Really? If it's so sweet why did God deliver us from "under the law"? Gal 4:4 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5 to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons We aren't under law. Why? Is God's law sin? What does Paul say? No way! Then why? Because the law requires at least two things from you: 1] Perfect, unblemished obedience. You must live Christ's life of unselfish love in every aspect of your life from the cradle to the grave. 2] God's law demands death to those who fail the 1st requirement. Not just a sleep death, but rather goodbye to life forever! Now, do you still wish to remain under law? Rob Quote
