Dr. Shane Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Hurricane Gustav has the possibility to get very ugly. Not much chance that it is coming for my area. People in New Orleans are getting scared. This is a storm to keep our eyes on. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Kountzer Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I have my eyes on Gustav, trust me on that. I hate to be selfish, but I sure hope it doens't come to the Houston area. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Frederick Douglass
Amelia Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Quote: Nagin orders mandatory evacuation of New Orleans 30 Aug, 2008 AP NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Mayor Ray Nagin is ordering the mandatory evacuation of New Orleans, turning informal advice to flee from the approaching Hurricane Gustav into an official order to get out. Nagin said Saturday that the evacuation becomes mandatory at 8 a.m. Sunday on the city's vulnerable west bank. It becomes mandatory on the east bank at noon. The announcement comes as officials continued to evacuate the elderly, disabled, poor and others without means ahead of Gustav's march toward the Gulf Coast. Officials began putting an estimated 30,000 of such residents on buses and trains Saturday morning, as Nagin also called on all tourists to leave. Nagin stopped short of calling for a mandatory evacuation late Friday, saying residents should start making plans to leave the city over the next few days. Moderators Gerr Posted August 31, 2008 Moderators Posted August 31, 2008 IMHO, it was idiotic to rebuild that part of New Orleans that is below water level. Billions of taxpayers money wasted. Sooner or later another hurricane will come along again that will breach a portion of the dikes. So now, everytime a hurricane threatens them, they will be evacuating, and if nothing happens, they will become complacent enough that when another Katrina comes along, they won't want to move!
