And it will on others too, i suppose. How can a person help it - two angelic daughters and a beautiful wife! /dAb Quote dAb O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
Amelia Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I really like that photo. Especially in monochrome rather than color. Dr. Shane Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Obama's wholesome family values is a big asset that he offers to bring to the White House. I have little doubt he and his family would be a good role model for Americans. Not to mention how well they would do Christmas White House style. We really do have two good candidates for President this year. No matter how it turns out, it is going to be bitter-sweet. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... D. Allan Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 With the Obama family in the White House it may be more like the Kennedy years. Christmas White House style - yes - and Concerts - it will be great. McCain has a nice family too. Did you know he and Cindy adopted a infant from Bangladesh? She must be almost a teen-ager now. This is the best picture I've seen, but when was it taken? ... no know ... /dAb Quote dAb O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!
Dr. Shane Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 During the Kennedy years a young female reporter came busting into the White House press room and announced, I just came from the President's bed. Oh, my! I don't want to make any insinuation that Obama's years would be like the Kennedy years. Yes, the McCain's adopted child is now 17 and was in attendance at the convention last night. Both candidates have fine families. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

I don't want to say anything about McCains lack of fidelity to his 1st wife either, so I won't. Aren't we sweet: ? American was "in love" with the Kennedys. I've a feeling they will feel the same about the Obama family. Why not? /dAb Quote dAb O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

Oh, my! I don't want to make any insinuation that Obama's years would be like the Kennedy years. How do you know about that? You were not even born then, let alone remember it....So, how do you know that it is a factual story? What's the name of the "young female reporter"? When did this happen? What sort of scandel did it result in? Details, Shane. Details.... Since you obviously know about this, and was there first hand, let's hear the details. Dr. Shane Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 At the Saddleback Church McCain said his greatest moral failure was the failure of his first marriage. He was quite humble about that. Obama said his greatest moral failure was the abuse of alcohol and drugs when he was younger which was caused by his selfishness. He was quite humble about that. I think it fair to give both these candidates a pass on that. JFK's approval ratings were in the tank when he was assassinated which is why he was in the parade in Dallas to begin with. Historians seriously doubt he would have won re-election. Perhaps a small group of Americans were "in love" with him but certainly not all Americans in general. His infidelity was not widely reported by the press. Some suggest that was to protect the feelings of Jackie. The story I told is commonly known and has been cited to show how it was well known among the White House press corps that JFK was not faithful to Jackie. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Neil D Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 uh huh....So, you weren't there.... and you are passing on second or third hand knowledge at best. perhaps you need to take a refresher coarse in the word "gossip"...I suggest you talk to Ichy about it. carolaa Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Yes, I am much more inclined to give people a pass when they admit their failings. It's the ones who can't admit they made a mistake and continue on their course that step on my nerves. Quote
Dr. Shane Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 It is a well established fact of history that John Kennedy committed adultery on Jackie while President on various occasions, the press knew and did not report it. The fact that is true and accepted doesn't mean it is not gossip. Some may still make the case that it is gossip and perhaps they would be right. Nonetheless, let's not get giddy and hope an Obama Administration would be a repeat of the Kennedy Administration. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Allan Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 It is a well established fact of history that John Kennedy committed adultery on Jackie while President on various occasions, the press knew and did not report it. The fact that is true and accepted doesn't mean it is not gossip. Some may still make the case that it is gossip and perhaps they would be right. Nonetheless, let's not get giddy and hope an Obama Administration would be a repeat of the Kennedy Administration. That is not the way the Obama family would resemble the Kennedy family, in those years of Jacks presidency. You should know better, unless, of course, you probably don't remember how it was in those days, being too young (if in existence yet) and in that case we may find it in our hearts (just may) to overlook your misunderstandings (but I make no promises because as youyourself say "Some may still make the case that it is gossip and perhaps they would be right."). Jackie's picture was on magazines every month. It was called by Jackie the era of "Camelot" after a broadway play of the time (which is a well established fact of history) and one of Jack's favorite songs being the title song ( verification of Jack's fav. song) . Camelot where it only rains at night. etc. etc. Infidelity has nothing to do with it. So let's not get too giddy and euphoric about accusations of adultery toward other people. In the first place it has nothing to do with my comparision of the future Obama years with the past Kennedy years. In the second and third place there is something else which I would rather not mention, except as an occasion for absoution of prevarication among the proverbial mugwups and bandersnatches of Wonderous Wonderous Land due to euphoric inflation of the id's alter-ego, (whatever that is), and moreover, fourthly, various other misunderstandings (not to mention the "fifthly!"). The rest will have to weight(not too heavily, I hope). That should about rap it up. /dab psst (maybe there will be another Camelot, but don't tell any body yet.) Your source, please, for that allegation? It's the first time I've ever heard it and I don't believe it. I *was* actually alive and watching TV news at the time [my second child was an infant and I was a stay-at-home mom in '63]. Kennedy's popularity was so high it was off the charts. Given your stance on defending Bush, regardless of his reputation and his history, this report is beneath you to remind us of something vile about our earlier presidents from something that is positive. Must you always be a downer with the democratic presidents? This type of remark is so beneath you, especially when in the past you defended Bush with so much loyalty...You even said to me that the president deserved our loyalty.... And you talk about new lows in reporting....and then there is this..... You really know how to undermind your own credibility....You need no help from me.... Dr. Shane Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I learned that in my college political science classes. I sold my books back at the end of the quarter so I cannot reference them. JFK barely won the 1960 election and it is commonly believed he won because of corruption in Chicago. His popularity just before his death was very low which is why he was in the parade in Dallas. He was trying to boost his approval rating. JFK's legacy is his adultery. I was born in 1969. I only know what is taught about him in history classes and TV documentaries. Yes, he did good with the Cuban Missile Crisis and started the Peace Corps. But most people of my generation remember him as a philanderer. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators John317 Posted September 4, 2008 Moderators Posted September 4, 2008 It's actually a fact of history that is admitted by Kennedy supporters, that Joe Kennedy paid for votes in Chicago, which resulted in Kennedy's winning Illinois. If Nixon had won Illinois, he would have had enough electoral votes to win the presidency. Nixon was aware of this but he didn't protest it. I remember the election of 1960 very clearly. I was one of two boys in my 6th grade class to cast my vote for Kennedy. All the rest went for Nixon. When the teacher, Mr. Hixon, counted the votes, he announced to the class that Nixon won all the class votes except for two "smart alecs." He had no idea who voted for Kennedy, but the attitude was that no one in an Adventist school could possibly be serious about voting for Kennedy. My dad used to take me to my grandmother's house to watch the Nixon/Kennedy debates. They were the first TV debates between presidential candidates. My feeling was that Nixon won those debates but that Kennedy looked so good in them. He was really a good looking man and so charming and well spoken. Nixon looked ashen by comparison and he sweated profusely throughout the whole debate. Kennedy was really popular among the young people, even among SDA students. The president was full of "vigor" and vitality and urged the young to exercise and also encouraged idealism and love of country. I couldn't help but like him, even though I was for Barry Goldwater in 1963, '64. I remember watching his last news conference just before his trip to Dallas. He seemed so alive and youthful and he had such great wit. I loved his accent. When I think back to those last days and the time of his death, it still seems really sad and a big shock the same as it was when my father announced it to the class that morning. Yes, Kennedy was unfaithful to his wife quite a few times. That is a fact. But in those days the press did not consider those things a proper subject to talk about. The Watergate scandal and Vietnam changed all that. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Dr. Shane Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 The picture is of Obama and his family, which includes small children. This was compared to JFK who also had small children. Now we could bury our heads in the sand like the press did during the JFK presidency or we can honestly talk about history the way it actually happened. I prefer not to paint the sky purple with pink clouds. I really don't want to go back to the days of labeling certain subjects as taboo and thus ignoring reality when the elephant is sitting in our living room. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
