Moderators John317 Posted September 13, 2008 Author Moderators Posted September 13, 2008 Karsh, Winston Churchill Karsh tells the story of how he got this famous portrait of Churchill. He says that he only had a few minutes to get the picture, and Churchill was not in a very good mood. He had a cigar in his mouth and looked as if he was daring the photographer to get a good picture of him. At that point, Karsh reached over and grabbed the cigar out of Churchill's mouth. He got the picture he wanted. Churchill looked like the bulldog that he was as Prime-minister during the war. Members phkrause Posted September 13, 2008 Members Posted September 13, 2008 Now there's a contrasting image in more ways than one. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators John317 Posted September 13, 2008 Author Moderators Posted September 13, 2008 Yes, quite a contrast, I agree. Burke-White worked for Life magazine. It was taken at the time of the Louisville Flood in Kentucky in 1937. Of course that was during the depressions years, and there were a lot of food lines like this. The sign seems to indicate that things were pretty good for whites, but the reality is that whites also were suffering greatly during those years.
