Lori's Story: Hope and Life Restored

Ten years ago – when Lori was just 23 – she was already divorced from an abusive husband, struggling with difficult family relationships, and just getting by. Then she was raped. Three months later, she learned she was pregnant...

Lori's life had not gone according to plan.

Shortly after divorcing an abusive husband, she was raped by a man she thought she could trust. When she learned she was pregnant, she believed abortion was the answer. That way, "I could put it all behind me and forget the whole thing."

But her situation was so difficult – she had no support – she considered ending her life. Somehow, she hung on.

Before her abortion, Lori confided in a friend, who urged her to visit a local pregnancy center. Lori tearfully agreed.

At the center, the caring counselors gently listened to her. Lori returned often for support and remembers, "The counselors gave me insight. They encouraged me and prayed for me."

Looking back, Lori says, "If it weren't for [my Care Net pregnancy center], Mari Olivia would most likely not be here today. They walked hand-in-hand with the Lord for me and my daughter..."

Giving Back to Others

"Over the last nine years," says Lori, "God always provided for me and my daughter." That included a wealth of spiritual and material support from her center. It also includes a loving husband, who she married four years ago. He has adopted Mari Olivia as his own daughter.

Today, this bright and happy 9-year-old loves cheerleading and singing in her church's youth choir. She is a straight-A student too. More than anything else, Mari Olivia loves spending time with her family.

For Lori, that's a long way from the dark days when she first learned she was pregnant. That's one of the reasons she volunteers at her center: to help other women whose struggles she understands so well. "I've grown a love, passion, and compassion for the clients," she says. "God will be with them."

Crisis Pregnancy Centers really are the solution to the abortion epidemic. They are non-political as far as I know. They focus on helping pregnant women and providing post-abortion counseling for those suffering the emotional and spiritual consequences of abortion. They need more funding both private and government. Planned Parenthood does everything they can stop these ministries from helping people which says more about Planned Parenthood than it does about the Crisis Pregnancy Centers.

I really like Crisis Pregnancy Centers because they tend to support the Adventist approach. That is, they are not trying to use the civil government to stop abortion. Rather they are trying to stop it by winning hearts and minds with the love of Jesus Christ.

Re: the two bold sections above...

I do think the crisis pregnancy centers will HELP solve the abortion epidemic, I can't agree that they are the only solution, or even the best solution in the long run. Rather, the focus they have, "winning hearts and minds with the love of Jesus Christ," if applied to society as a whole--before the rapes and unwanted pregnancies even take place--is what will solve these rape and abortion epidemics all together.

Love will win them all. We (Christians) just have to start loving a whole lot more than we're doing.

Where do you get this information? Is it from Planned Parenthood?

From CareNet. I support them financially and they send me updates. CareNet does seek government funding for its centers and Planned Parenthood tries to prevent them from getting any. Even though Planned Parenthood gets something like 50 times as much government funding than what CareNet gets.

So, you don't know where they are getting thier information from...right?

You don't know if it is from thier experience or if they are making it up because they are a non-profit religious group...

I would venture to guess they got the information from the federal budget of public record.
