In the early church......

In Acts (sorry I do not have the exact quotes) it describes how the church members took care of each other. Richer members sold their things (so it seems) and everyone was on an equal basis as far as material things go, like food, shelter, etc. People actually HELPED people in their communities and not with ADRA.

Now, I am NOT advocating that all the rich members of the SDA church go out and sell their property to support the poor. But I AM curious as to how we can get back to the rudiments of the early church without doing as they did.

Please don't make this into a discussion of works vs salvation. It's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the lives of people here. I know nobody can *save* everyone, but it seems to me that the early church had the right idea. Why are Adventists so against it? Are we so complacent?

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I think that if we were more under the direction of the Holy Spirit and less concerned with ourselves and our things, we would do what you are talking about. Not that we would sell all our possessions but we would be more concerned about the needs of other people.

So I think the answer is our love that comes from the Spirit and from Jesus being in our hearts and lives.

I believe before Christ returns, our church will return to the primitive godliness of the book of Acts.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

I agree with that 100%. I believe that EGW says something to that effect.
