Dr. Shane Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi introduced an energy bill tonight at 9:45 pm ET. The bill only allows drilling between 50 and 100 miles off shore. Individual states must opt in but are given no financial incentive to opt in. It provides no means to deal with law suits. The bill came directly out of the Speaker's office and was never reviewed in committee. It contains earmarks. The bill in this form is a scam so that Democratic congressmen can vote for it and go home and claim they voted for off shore drilling. This bill will produce no oil. This bill leaves 80% of oil off shore off limits. No states will opt in without a financial incentive. Environmental groups will delay drilling for years by using the courts. I got this information from C-Span, not from any political commentators. I expect to hear a lot about this bill tomorrow and throughout this week. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 Introduced last night and passed a few minutes ago. No amendments allowed and hardly any debate. Americans didn't even have time to write their congressmen about it. The bill is likely to die in the Senate. The only mainstream media outlet I saw reporting on this today was PBS' NewsHour with Jim Lerher. Of course, I don't see every source of news out there. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
