Feeding the Homeless + the Poor

How did you two get from feeding the homeless to what Ellen White ate? We all know she ate meat. She wasn't perfect. Quit arguing jots and tittles!

You're right Amelia. It's just that some are not as informed as others.

This has nothing to do with eating meat. Are you talking about the Literature Evangelists? The issue was not animal flesh, but sugar, bleached flour, and baking powder, (pancakes and things like that), which Ellen White said are worse than flesh foods. She counseled some people in a poor country to eat meat cause they didn't have a variety of things to sustain a vegetarian diet. The woman didn't listen and she died. Another guy died of because he substituted sugar for meat. He actually died from too much sugar.

Quote:
"I do not like the looks of your eyes." I said. He was eating large quantities of sugar, and in answer to my question why he did this, he said that he had left off meat, and did not know anything that would supply its place as well as sugar. His food did not satisfy him. This man was suffering simply because his wife did not know how to cook. She was deficient in this important branch of education; and as the result, the poorly cooked food not being sufficient to sustain the demands of the system, sugar was eaten immoderately, and this brought on a diseased condition of the entire system. I tried to tell them as well as I could how to manage, and soon the sick man began to improve. But he imprudently exercised his strength when not able, ate a small amount not of the right quality, and was taken down again. This time there was no help for him. His system seemed to be a living mass of corruption. He died a victim to poor cooking.

But if you justify the LE group for disregarding counsel, then you are in the wrong. It was the right thing for me to make a statement, like Daniel:

[color:#BF0000]Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

You should not be so quick to take sides with the majority just because they are the majority:

[color:#BF0000]Exo. 23:2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to [do] evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest [judgment]:

And they did not consider fish to be "meat" back then. Also, you are insinuating that Ellen White issued counsel that she didn't keep herself.

It is no secret that Ellen White ate meat at times, but it is important to consider the circumstances around those times late in her life when she was eating it.

She never said that it is a sin under all circumstances to eat meat.

The principle is good health. If you can't have good health without meat, it is best to eat it, of course. When crossing the ocean, she would sometimes eat meat because it was what she needed to maintain health.

None of those things meant that Ellen White was not doing what she preached or taught. On the other hand, of course she was a fallen human being in need of a Savior, and therefore, she would be the last to claim herself as our role model. She would have said, like Paul, "Follow me as I follow Christ."

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

She was a perfect role model. She went along just fine with the transition God gave His church. She really was a model for health reform if there ever was one.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with meat. I understand if you are in a 3rd world country and the healthy foods are not available, but everything is available in the U.S. now, above every other country.

I was at Hartland and they had no problem honoring health reform. They didn't have to make all these compromises. These LE programs have no excuse. They despised Ellen White's counsel. They need to overcome that. Their books sales will not cover their sins. I'm not saying it's a sin to not eat pancakes, but it's a sin to murder someone who has determined that he will never eat them with your group.

But back to the topic. The food the OKC church fed the homeless was by the book, very wholesome.
