Woody Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 What should our response be to the attacking of the US Embassy in Yemen? Should this be allowed? This is an attack against the US directly. Our Embassy is our territory. How do we protect it? This has happened in Yemen before. I think they have done enough of this. Time is up. There needs to be some kind of consequence. Why let these young guys (and gals, today!) get out of going through what I went through during Vietnam? Seriously, there are benefits for a nation to have its young people serve a year or two in service of some kind for their country. It has been around since Kennedy's administration, at least. Believe it or not, they even had things like that during Vietnam. Not too many knew about those programs, though. They also had what is called "the white coats." This program was only in certain years. When I was drafted in 1966 I was not given that choice. My brother who was drafted in 1972 he was given that choice. From what I understand they have a reunion every so often. Sam Houston and then would be later sent to Ft. Detrick. Most of the medics when I was there got orders to Vietnam. Out of a group of 1,000 or so, a handful might be sent to Germany, some to dental or x-ray school, some to Ft. Detrick, and the rest to RVN training, meaning you were Vietnam-bound. In 1965, my family had a friend in the program who we visited back there but I don't know how he got into it. I was drafted in Nov. 1968, so I was going in about the time you were coming out.
