Robert Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Because what you consider glory and what God considers glory are two different things. Movie stars, for example, are use to getting glory! Why? They are important. Their whole lives have been a series of steps so they could become number 1. They want and receive glory. And the reason folks give them glory is because they covet their positions. They too want to be rich and powerful. They too want folks to worship the ground they walk on. But God, well, he is opposite: Mark 10:42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them [in other words Politicians aren't really looking out for your interest...they are self-seeking.] . 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” God lives to serve. He lives not for Himself, but His creation. That's the glory of God. That's why I do give God the glory! He is awesome! Rob Quote

Woody Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Couldn't Him wanting all the glory have something to do with how it affects us? You have made a good point here. If we hold onto ANY of the Glory ... we are lost. We have to give it all to Jesus. Holding onto even the slightest speck would polute us and cause our destruction. Lineman Posted September 27, 2008 Author Posted September 27, 2008 Had not thought about being poluted as you say. Good point. It also seems to have something to do with our attitude towards Him and all those around us. Quote Visit and Share the BibleTimelines.com URL ! Neil D Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 "All the glory"..... Oooh, I dunno.... I have seen some of that Glory, and been the recipient of it....It has done me good....I also stepped away from it....and I don't miss it...I had my time... I tend to think that a lot of people need a little bit of glory, especially when they are humble and know that the glory that they are recieving is directly from God. It can do them some good... A little is good...To much is addicting...It can also, liked saved favored food, spoil and grow rancid... So, I would conclude that a little bit sprinkled on a very humble person helps them grow quite a bit. And God doesn't grow rancid... rush4hire Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 God wants us to have as much glory as we can handle. [color:#BF0000]Daniel 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. Prov. 3:35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools. Matt. 6:29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 1 Cor. 11:7 ...the woman is the glory of the man. Prov. 4:9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. 1 Cor. 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for [her] hair is given her for a covering. Prov. 17:6 Children's children [are] the crown of old men; and the glory of children [are] their fathers. Prov. 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and [it is] his glory to pass over a transgression. Prov. 20:29 The glory of young men [is] their strength: and the beauty of old men [is] the grey head. But we have to humble ourselves. We can't take glory for our own salvation. That would be perverse. The result of sin is death. It took a great sacrifice for God to save us from the death that we chose for ourselves. Also, humility is an important thing. Self-glorification will cause someone to fall to pride. Also, giving the glory to God, leads people to God. If we lead people to ourselves, we do nothing for them. But if we bring them to God, we do alot for them. It's for the benefit of the people that it's set up this way. Quote I cant make a sig with 30 chrs

What you are saying is that if the glory we get comes from ourselves it will destroy us, but if it comes from God it will bless us. Why would God give us ANY glory? Hey, God deserves all the glory. He certainly can have ALL of it as far as I'm concerned. I don't even want any of it. By rights, I ought to be dead right now. I totally rebelled against God and did terrible, terrible things-- thousands of time. No exaggeration. I'm only very fortunate that I didn't die during those times. He would have been right to let this whole world go out in oblivion. It's only because of His amazing, incomprehensible that He came here instead and died for us. I will never understand that, will you? Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
rush4hire Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 I just quoted a few verses in an attempt to justify God. Now, what's the problem? God is glorified in glorifying His people. Is that hard to understand? And you don't have to keep identifying yourself with the sins of your past. And here's a quote I keep thinking about: The disposition to flatter and exalt those who have been rescued from the lowest depths sometimes proves their ruin. The practice of inviting men and women to relate in public the experience of their life of sin is full of danger to both speaker and hearers. To dwell upon scenes of evil is corrupting to mind and soul. And the prominence given to the rescued ones is harmful to them. Many are led to feel that their sinful life has given them a certain distinction. A love of notoriety and a spirit of self-trust are encouraged that prove fatal to the soul. Only in distrust of self and dependence on the mercy of Christ can they stand. {MH 178.1} I've have seen this admonition much ignored. Quote I cant make a sig with 30 chrs
Moderators John317 Posted September 28, 2008 Moderators Posted September 28, 2008 And you don't have to keep identifying yourself with the sins of your past. It's not a matter of identifying oneself with sins of the past. It's a matter of having no illusions about human nature. It's knowing what's in humanity apart from God. Jesus is right-- without him we can do NO-THING. In fact, without Him we ARE no-thing. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
rush4hire Posted September 28, 2008 Posted September 28, 2008 That's fine. The question was "Why does God get all the glory?" And I said God gives His children as much glory as they can handle. Then I quote scriptures to demonstrate how people have a certain glory. And I'm sure there are more. Then I said some other things. But all those verses where ignored and two people act like I'm some kind of lunatic for what I said. [color:#BF0000]Gal. 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. So the apostle does not glory in circumcision or his Jewish heritage, but he does glory in something. He glories in the cross of Christ. But you guys are better than him, I suppose. And better than those mentioned in the other verses. You don't even glory in the cross of Christ? [color:#BF0000]Romans 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: Romans 2:10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: Romans 5:3 And not only [so], but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 9:4 Who are Israelites; to whom [pertaineth] the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service [of God], and the promises; Romans 9:23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Romans 15:17 I have therefore whereof I may glory through Jesus Christ in those things which pertain to God. 1 Cor. 1:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 1 Cor. 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, [even] the hidden [wisdom], which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 1 Cor. 15:43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: 2 Cor. 11:30 If I must needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities. 2 Cor. 12:5 Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities. Eph. 3:13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. 1 Peter 2:20 For what glory [is it], if, when ye be buffeted for your faults I guess I can stop here. I keep thinking if I have enough verses, the verses won't be just completely ignored. As if I'm making some statement, and it's not the Bible that's speaking. Quote I cant make a sig with 30 chrs

Let's say I came across with that same idea, in a way that's pleasing to everyone. In a way that no one could see as "inflammatory". So how would it be? Q: Are you better than Paul? A: No. Q: So you glory then? A: No. I'm too humble to glory. Q: But Paul gloried. A: Oh. Does anyone see what I'm saying? Just read the verses. There is a kind of glory that people can have. It's a simple point. No need to go on about it. But whatever you do, don't just ignore the verses. Quote I cant make a sig with 30 chrs
