Moderators John317 Posted October 20, 2008 Moderators Posted October 20, 2008 Monday, October 20, 2008 The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows Barack Obama attracting 50% of the vote while John McCain earns 46%. Obama has been at the 50% level of support for seven of the past eight days while McCain has been at 45% or 46%. Obama’s lead has been in the four to six point range on each of those eight days. This suggests that the race may be tightening a bit. Prior to the past week, Obama had enjoyed a five to eight point advantage for several weeks. McCain has regained his advantage among male voters, leading by five. However, Obama leads by eleven among women. Still, from a broader perspective, the race remains very stable. Obama’s support has ranged from 50% to 52% every day for twenty-five straight days while McCain’s total has stayed between 44% and 46% (see trends). Tracking Poll results are released every day at 9:30 a.m. Eastern and a FREE daily e-mail update is available. Obama is viewed favorably by 54%, McCain by 53%. fccool Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 It's very hard to tell the outcomes based on polls. Look what happened between Bush and Gore, and then Bush and Kerry again. Even the exit polls were wrong by large margins. How do you expect the random pool polls to be accurate? Polling is a great political tool to sway the undecided voters, more than a statistic. There are number of way to get the poll results you like to have. On top of that we have to consider that the polls are spread through various states, which will get various electoral vote numbers. Popular vote does not necessarily means a lead. State by state breakdown would be more meaningful. Quote
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted October 20, 2008 Administrators Posted October 20, 2008 Quote: WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democrat Barack Obama has expanded his national lead over Republican John McCain in the U.S. presidential race to 6 percentage points, according to a Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released on Monday. Obama leads McCain 50 percent to 44 percent among likely U.S. voters in the latest three-day tracking poll, up from Obama's 3-point advantage on Sunday. The telephone poll has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points. And Real Clear Politics has the polling average at 5.3 to Obama's favor. In what really counts - electoral votes - RCP has Obama with 286 and McCain with 155. (270 needed to win) As it stands right now, for McCain to win he will have to carry all of the toss up states (97 votes) and at least Virginia and one of Obama's two other close states, Colorado and New Mexico. Neil D Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 I've been listening to some progressive radio...They say that McCain is having difficulty carrying those swing states and may not be able to carry some red states....And there are some progressive talking heads that are hoping for a landslide.... I will be happy if there was a 15-20% overall lead in Obama's favor.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw
