Amelia Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Oregon Couple Attacked In Ecuador 20 Oct, 2008 KoinTV.com ESMERALDAS, Ecuador - Two Oregon residents traveling in South America were brutally attacked. One of them suffered multiple stab wounds. The other was sexually assaulted. 35-year-old Britt Leis is suffering from infections from those stab wounds and will be airlifted to the U.S. for treatment. His 24-year-old companion, Leah Koehn, writes on her trip blog that Britt is in very serious condition. "Britt and I were brutally attacked last Thursday", she wrote. "His condition started out as very serious and has gradually gotten even more so." More details on the event and the trip are on that blog site. The pair were walkiing in the small coastal community of Esmeraldas, Ecuador when they were attacked. Leah was molested while Britt was stabbed 18 times between his neck and his intestines. Although the stab wounds did not sever and vital organs, they did open the door to serious infection, and that infection has reportedly grown worse. Leah, who speaks Spanish, managed to get Britt into a hospital in Quito, ecuador's capital city, where his mother, Phyllis, joined him. His father arranged for him to be transferred to a hospital in Loma Linda, Calif. for more medical treatment. Oregon's U.S. Senator, Ron Wyden, contacted the U.S. State Department and confirmed that the medical evacuation process is proceeding. Britt's stepmother, Shawn Leis, says she heard that other Americans were targeted by attackers at the same time in Ecuador, though as of Monday evening there was no confirmation of that. But the State Department's Web site makes it clear that travel in Ecuador can be hazardous; at least 10 U.S. citizens have been kidnapped near Ecuador's border with Columbia since 1998. A U.S. citizen was murdered in Ecuador in 2001. Taylor Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Do you know if they were SDA? Just curious as he is in the Loma Linda Hospital, and with thousands of hospitals to choose from...I was curious if he was from the Loma Linda area, of "stab care" and "infection controll" is one of their specialities, or if they were SDA. Moderators John317 Posted October 21, 2008 Moderators Posted October 21, 2008 That was my first thought, too. I just have this feeling that they are Adventist or have close relatives who are. Of course it is also possible someone mentioned what a great hospital it is, but it seems more likely they're SDA. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Taylor Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Maybe we will never know. Anyway, the crime was certainly dreadful. Poor souls to have to go through that! I hope they both survive. Quote
