It wasn't me talking about that. I favor the graduated tax system. My only point has been when we need to raise taxes that everyone pitches in. When we need to cut taxes, everyone gets a cut. In both cases the rich should be impacted more.

To expand my point, not only would the same tax percentage take a greater share of the working man's wage than the rich man's wage, but most of the working man's wage goes for basic living expenses while the rich man has plenty left over.

To take the same percentage of the poor man's wage is to literally take food off his table, while it leaves the rich man with little to no difference of what food he has on his table.

That's why I like Obama's basic idea of the $250,000 cut-off (a very decent living wage, I'd say) for who would pay less tax or more tax.

No, Obama's idea is immoral. If we need to raise taxes we should all get a tax increase. The poor should have a smaller increase and the rich a larger one. But we are all Americans. We are all in this together. We should all be contributing something.

I think it is immoral to take food off people's tables.

What if they stole the food from somebody else?

I never said they stole it. That is your view.

Everyone benefits from public schools, public roads, public bridges, fire departments, police departments, military protection and various other government services. In order for the government to supply these things we have to pay taxes. If I pay no taxes than I am free-loading. That is a type of stealing. However the poor can pay a low rate of taxes, like .5%. And we also offer a standard deduction of $10,000. So if the poor earn $20,000/year they only pay .5% of $10,000 which is $50.

Now let's say the government needs more money so they are going to raise taxes. Should they raise taxes on the rich and give this poor guy his $50 back plus another $500? No. That would be immoral. Increasing the taxes on the upper class to turn around and give it to someone more needy. No. If the government needs more revenue everyone should get a tax increase. Perhaps the rich get a 3% tax increase while our friend making $20k gets a .05% increase.
