Dr. Shane Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I was concerned about voting early that I would later change my mind. I voted for Obama as I had been leaning toward him for a while. If I would have waited until today my vote wouldn't have changed. I am glad to be part of electing the first black President. That is something I will be proud to share with my children and grandchildren in the years to come. I am also going to be happy not to hear the liberals belly-aching about the honorable President Bush. I mean, I will be very happy. The liberals can't find anything good about the man. I think they even accuse him of using too many sheets when he wipes himself. It will be so nice to not have people counting the number of empty toilet paper rolls in the White House trash. Taylor Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 I thought it was great, when during McCain's concession speech he said something about "America having come a long way from the prejudice of the past to electing an african-american president". When he said that, the crowd of Republicans burst into applause. That was fantastic to see! I am glad we are conquering racism in America, becuase, though I am white, there is nothing I despise more than racism and I think it is about time we had a president that wasn't all white. I think that is why the Republicans were able to clap. THey may not agree with Obama's premises, or direction, or goals, but they applaud that he is president as we have come a long ways. On the other hand, saying he got elected because of race really ignores the huge numbers of other races who voted for him and makes that of non-effect which also isn't cool. It would also infer that if African Americans are that shallow as to vote based only on race than all Republicans were that shallow and voted for McCain only based on race. Neither is true. I think people see Obama as a person first, not a race first, and that is how it should always be. We should be able to affirm and applaud all races but also accept them as people without judging them first based on race. Quote

Why do you and others neglect the white part of Obama? I believe the threshold is 12.5%. If a person is at least 12.5% racial minority they are legally considered part of that minority group. Now the fact that Obama is biracial only adds to the victory. Prejudice is still alive in America to the point that biracial marriages are still discouraged or looked down on by many people. Taylor Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 He is biracial because of his parents. His marriage isn't as biracial as he is 1/2 white but he is also 1/2 african american and his wife is african american. Quote
