Stan Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Many folks have taken the various personality tests, am sure most know what I am taking about.. It is something that lets us find out or confirm what our "Comfort Zone" is. AND we live with that knowledge and wisdom... HOWEVER Most GREAT things are done, when we step out of our comfort zone, and follow God's leading. When I review the lives of those who have done significant things in life, it seems like they did thing WAY out of their comfort zone.. Step out, Step up do something extraordinary for the 3 Angels Messages. Just my thoughts... I can think of David, who went from shepherd to warrior to king. Moses, who feared to face the Pharaoh because of his lack of confidence in his speech - had forgotten Egyptian in the 40 years, maybe? Ellen White, a timid teenager. What about some examples in more modern times? I think that, for whatever reason, many Adventists are comfortable with arguing jots and tittles, and uncomfortable with talking about our faith in Christ. We definitely need to step out of our comfort zone in that area! LD Quote LD
Moderators LynnDel Posted November 8, 2008 Moderators Posted November 8, 2008 On the other hand, when you consider those who appeared to have stepped out of their comfort zone, you can see how God gave them experiences to prepare them for their mission. David, while a shepherd, had to confront fear, but bravely fought off enemies. As a shepherd, both he and Moses learned to lead not only sheep, but people. Ellen White, because of her health issues, spent many hours in contemplation and meditation. We can each look back and see the experiences God has led us through. How have these prepared us to be of service for Him? What can you do with "what is in your hand" (God to Moses at the burning bush)? The next step may be a leap, but it most likely will be a logical step in our life's progress. Quote LD
carolaa Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 I don't know. God gave us gifts and talents for a reason - and that was to use them. I'm not sure it's wise to step out of our comfort zone in a major way unless God is asking us to do so. Otherwise, I don't think it's likely to go well. The people in the Bible that I can think of who rose to greatness were being prepared all along the way. It's not like they decided one day to step out of their comfort zone, or that God asked them to do something that He hadn't prepared them for. They didn't deliberately leave their comfort zone, but God forced them out of their comfort zones in little ways on their journey to greatness. That's not to say we shouldn't try new things. In fact, that's a great way to find out if we're good at something or not. But the more we know ourselves and our strengths, the more we can focus on those areas and be great at them. Quote
carolaa Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 I guess that's kind of what you were saying, LynnDel. Quote
Stan Posted November 8, 2008 Author Posted November 8, 2008 Lord... Help us to comfort the afflicted and afflict those that are too comfortable. (not my original thought, but I like that prayer) Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com
