Man allegedly steals communion wafers from priest

No reason as to why this man stole the wafers. Was this the right thing to do? The man disrupted a church service, probably got a bit violent as he was cornered by the offended parishners. This man got his just deserts....right?

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. – Police in said they arrested a Connecticut man after he tried to steal communion wafers during a church service. The Martin County Sheriff's Office said 33-year-old John Samuel Ricci, of Canton, was cornered by fellow churchgoers when he grabbed a handful of wafers from the priest during communion services Saturday.

The Stuart News reported that Ricci was being held down by six or seven offended parishioners when deputies arrived at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Jensen Beach. Police say two parishioners, ages 82 and 61, received minor injuries in the scuffle.

Ricci was charged with two counts of simple battery, theft and disruption of a religious assembly. He was being held Tuesday on $2,000 bond at the Martin County Jail.

I can't think of any other reason why a person would try to steal a handful of communion wafers.

And if that was the case, I would certainly view the crime in a less severe light.

...hang on, I just noticed...

A Catholic church having a service on Saturday?

Does that make them Sabbath keepers?

(or do they have mass every day anyway?)

I believe that there are a couple of reasons why a catholic would be having communion on Sabbath....

the first reason is that Sunday services are much larger and the congregation has the option to have services on Sabbath evening....

The second reason, as I recall, is that there are some Catholics who do keep a Saturday service, but I don't recall all the circumstances surrounding the reasons....

Saturday services are typically in the evening either after sundown or just before it. So, Biblically it is actually Sunday.

This is just sad in my opinion. Why didn't the priest just give the guy the wafers? Then tell the man, after services we will feed you? Why did the other people get offended? Were they scared he was going to get more Jesus than everyone else? Why didn't they take him somewhere and feed him? I think they could have handled this situation a whole lot differently and with a better outcome, than calling the police and having him arrested.

Here is 2 articles from Stewart News The below article comes from the next day...please note, the service was a SATURDAY MORNING.

JENSEN BEACH — Parishioners at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church stopped a man from leaving Saturday morning Mass after he "attempted to steal a handful of communion wafers from the priest," according to an arrest report.

Martin County sheriff's deputies found six to seven parishioners holding down John Samuel Ricci, 33, of Canton, Conn., when they arrived around 9:30 a.m. at the church, located on Northeast Savannah Boulevard.

Ricci had tried to leave the church after grabbing the communion wafers, but "the enraged and offended parishioners stood in his way," the report said.

Ricci got angry, cursed at the parishioners and even pushed two of them to the ground, according to the report. One suffered minor injuries, while another was taken to the hospital complaining of chest pain.

Deputies arrested Ricci and charged him with two counts of simple battery, theft and disruption of a religious assembly. He was still being held Sunday afternoon at the Martin County Jail on $2,000 bond.

I heard a comedian, a long time ago, (maybe it was Dane Cook), tell about how he wanted to steal the Communion wafers and run home and put milk on them, and eat them like cereal.

Maybe he was influenced that comedian.

A Catholic Church near me has two masses on Saturday afternoon and 3 on Sunday. Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church has two Saturday services. It is not unusual. It must be a beastly conspiracy to lull Adventists into some sense of lethargy. reyes

Rome has always been able to compromise with the customs of her enemies, and honor all the gods of all the people she wants to unite with herself. It seems that momentum can't stop with that Adventists. She will try to "meet us half-way". We're supposed to say: "Wow, she wants to keep the Sabbath now. That's wonderful. Let's go ecumenical." If we don't, then she'll send spies to act like they are one of us, and they will push for ecumenical compromise. There is alot of evidence that this has happened. Such as the New Theology movement, which teaches Catholic doctrine.

And Rick Warren is a famous ecumenical evangelist.
