Is there any way to stop all of these requests from those who spend more than they have? I am going to put my foot down on this. I see no reason and no benefit from giving them $10 billion. Perhaps that is why the city needs $10 billion. If we let one city get away with this ... we would have a long list of cities that would come to the trough. I say we just abandon the city and force them to move to the country. As an environomentalist ... I hate the damage to the environoment that cities cause. It is better to spread apart. And it went on depending on government props for years, until it finally flourished into what it is today. Without government protectionism Toyota would be nothing. Yet, listening to Bush speaking today, I think we need to stop pretending to have free market capitalism. We are ways from it. Quote

From a financial perspective, there is no difference. Cities employ people, who provide services for the taxpayers (customers). In that respect, city governments are acting as financial institutions... or companies. Otherwise, why would we even be talking about bailout? Quote
