The Obamas on 60 Minutes

I've only seen reporting on the show, not the show itself, and from a source on the left, so I'd just be interested to see the reactions of any of my friends here who watched.

I watched a good portion of it ... at least as much as my stomach would allow.

It was an excellent interview. I watched all of it except the last 5 minutes when they were talking about the dog (I think) and my aunt called on the phone about her doctor appt. the following day so I couldn't very well cut her off.

I thought the topics were well discussed, and it shows how well Obama is able to deflect topics he's not at liberty to discuss [e.g., "Will you have a Republican in your Cabinet?" "Yes." "Will you have more than one Republican?" "(smiling)I'm not going to tell you that."]

"What is good about your life since Nov. 4?" "Well, for one thing, I'm able to sleep at home in my own bed." "What is not so good since Nov. 4?" "I can't go to my barbershop any more; instead, the barber has to come h-- to an undisclosed location." "Also, I dislike it because I can't go for a walk in the neighborhood any more; the Secret Service won't allow it."

When asked if he sometimes wakes up and says to himself What have I gotten myself into?! his answer was that he thinks this is what he ought to be doing at this particular point in his life.

Which I think is the way a true leader should think. He's not there for self-glorification, but for the purpose of leadership.

When asked what books he's been reading, he said he's read a lot of Lincoln. Also about FDR, and JFK, and even Eisenhower. (All of them great presidents.)

I don't know if I could say that JFK, FDR or Eisenhower were "great" Presidents. I think Eisenhower was mediocre at best. FDR was scandalous and a failure. He was elected to get us out of the Depression which he never did and he tried to pack the Supreme Court which I think was one of the biggest political scandals of the last century. JFK got a good start. He cut taxes and held the Russians off during the Cuban crisis but he was killed before he could do much. And as far as Lincoln goes... I think he is a mixed bag too. I believe he is the only President to ever ignore Supreme Court rulings.

I missed the Obama interview but have heard good reviews on both the left and right.
