Moderators John317 Posted November 24, 2008 Moderators Posted November 24, 2008 Yes, in the sense that Jesus was out to make changes in society, changes that were often controversial and even revolutionary, and still are. But he is to be distinguished from typical social activists because Jesus wasn't out simply to change laws or behavior. He didn't call people to revolt in the typical sense of the word. Nor did he encourage people to use violence against an enemy. For instance, his message didn't directly condemn all slavery per se. Yet his message contained values that if understood and practiced would lead people to stop using people as slaves. His primary purpose was to change individuals on the inside. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators Gerr Posted November 24, 2008 Moderators Posted November 24, 2008 Well?? If you mean did He march in demonstration for social changes? NO!!! But He did so by His actions! Touching the untouchables! Forgiving the unforgivable! Eating with the outcasts of society! Taking women (one who is at least of very questionable character) with Him in some of His missionary journeys. Now, if that was not breaking down social bariers, then I don't know what does. Taylor Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Well?? Ya so long as we don't call him a socialist, or shall we say as long as we don't justify human made socialism with all it's top-heavy greed and call it "godly". :) Quote

doctorj Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 The fact that he had pharisees following him and trying to catch Him out suggests that he was stirring the pot. He was a social activist of a very different kind. Quote Make sure you have finished speaking before your audience has finished listening. -- Dorothy Sarnoff
olger Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 He was not here to involve Himself in political affairs, but to dispense spiritual blessings and to condemn sin in the flesh. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
