Is there really a "Big Foot"?

Recommended Posts

I was talking to one of my patients...She claims that she is sure that "Big foot", the legendary animal, is real and she thinks that it lives in the area....

She thinks a person gets scared because these creatures are able to emit a subsonic tone that cause a person to get frightened....

I have seen the stories on TV that believes that big foot has been seen as far away as Alabama and Florida...

Of course, when I was growing up, it was a creature that inhabited the Pacific Northwest only.....

I grew up in Seattle and it was something that a lot of people in the area believed in. Is it possible? Yes, I suspect so. Likely? Definitely not. It certainly wouldn't be a higher life form like some people believe.

I never heard about the subsonic emition was what scared people. I always thought that because they were 9 feet tall, covered with lots of hair and smelled bad was enough to scare people.

I lived for about two years in Bremerton, right across the Puget Sound from Seattle. I loved it. Of course the "Big Foot," or Sasquatsh (wild-man), was a big thing all over the Northwest. The history of it seems to originate with the legends told by the Indians of that area. Seemed like a lot of people, including about half a dozen "scientists," take it pretty seriously. There's no really good evidence for its existence, though. Most of the sightings end up being hoaxes. There are similar stories told in many places, such as in parts of Africa and in the Himalayas.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Washington state has twice as many reported sighting than Oregon. In fact it looks like Washington has the most reported sightings of all the states, with Oregon coming in second. And apparently Bigfoot doesn't care much for Canada as there are very few reports from the main provinces and none at all from the territories.

Well, in one of Michael Marshall's novels he speculates that it's actually neanderthal people, who have the ability to place images in our minds to protect themselves. So they're really our size or smaller but make us think they're huge and scary.

Of course, he's a novelist.

Seatco was the name of Sasquatch in some of the Pacific NW Indian Tribes.

In the 1920's there were some miners up in the Mt St Helens area in a cabin at dusk one evening. All of a sudden huge boulders and logs were being thrown down the slope at the cabin. When the miners went outside they could see the outline of large hairy "ape-like" creatures throwing the boulders. They took some shots at the creatures, but missed. The miners packed up their gear and never returned to their mine. (This was a true story from the Kelso-Longview newspaper annals.)

Some Indian tribes also believed that Sasquatch was comprised of renegade Indians from a variety of tribes in the Pacific NW, and that they were very large and covered with dark hair.

There was a Big Foot imprint sighting around Spirit Lake in the 1960's, which created quite a stir....until it was discovered it was all of the same right foot.

Last year (2000), for example, researchers in the Brazilian Amazon found two species of brightly coloured monkeys that had never before been recorded. Earlier this year (2001), a new owl was discovered in Sri Lanka. And an unusual form of antelope, the saola, was found in Vietnam a few years ago.

The argument that we of all the new species yet to be discovered -- an American Ape is not one of them -- remains to be proven.
