But then 20 youth came storming into our house for a party. Now ... I am afraid that I have to agree .... I may be OLD. I am also old fashioned. When I was raised ... we were taught to at least acknowledge the host and hostess. Well ... these youth come marching in on their cell phones either talking or texting or talking to each other. What am "I" ??? Fish bait? Have any of the rest of you experienced this ??? OR do I have to take this personally? Gerry and Sulla and John317 .... Amelia Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Since I don't know your age I can't say if you are old. What I can say is that the youth were apparently not taught manners. They were being very rude to ignore you and treat your home as their own. Having manners is not "old fashioned" at least not to me. But it is something that I see lacking in the younger generations. darlene Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I think that sometimes, y o u n g people just don't think about others. They are too involved in their own lives. Yes, some of them need to be taught manners but, many of their parents are hardly ever with them. Too busy these days. Quote

But I am mystyfied by your last sentence. Is that what you think of sanctification? That people are scared into holy and righteous living? Friend, after understanding what sin has done to the heart of God and what it has done to my Jesus, I would never knowingly, deliberately, and willfully do anything to ever hurt God or drive nails into the hands and feet of my Jesus ever again, not because I'm scared of going to hell. If you are speaking about me thats not what I ment sense I know nothing about you. Its one of the reasons Ellen WHite gives for William Miller not accepting the Sabbath. Thats why I mentioned it:) But on the other hand its possible you are really old. I am just saying I dont know one way or the other. Quote

Liz Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Being old is all relative. When I was very young I thought 40 was old. Now that I am approaching 40 (in a few years, not there yet), it isn't so old. I think your youth that you invited over was just rude, hopefully they will grow out of it. Unfortunately unless they have guidance they won't. Redwood, aren't you proud of me? But then ... we all know that he is as old as the hills. But back to the youth. When the youth of our church came crashing in ... I did report them ... to the Pastor. But the pastor just kinda shrugged it off. I intend to have further words with that pastor of mine. Them there young uns need to have some learn-in on their b-hind. And it is up to the pastor to administer the board of education upon them. ____ knows that their parents are not going to. Oh well. I just sound like someone as old as Neil. I need to act my age. Moderators Bravus Posted December 7, 2008 Moderators Posted December 7, 2008 It's one of the things I do notice about my daughters' friends - who says 'Hi' and introduces him- or herself to the parents and who ignores them. We've been blessed with good friends for our girls, and have certainly taught and encouraged them to do the same when they go to other people's homes. But Doug has you covered as well - I don't even think it's generational. We might think there was some civil and civilised Golden Age in the past, but I think in reality there are always people with manners (which boil down to consideration for others and thoughtfulness) and people without. And that cuts across social classes and groups. One thing we do need to be aware of is cultural differences - the oft-cited example where in some cultures eye-contact from younger people to older people is a sign of disrespect helps make the point. We need to recognise that other people sometimes express the same underlying values in different ways based on their culture - and that there are many cultures *within* our country and our ethnic group as well as in other countries and groups. None of that excuses bad manners, it just means we need to look for good manners with our eyes wide open and our brains on. Quote Truth is important
