LifeHiscost Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 ___when some Christians, who say they trust God, think that when He puts up a warning message, His messengers are just trying to scare them. When we're driving down the road in a rainstorm and we see a sign from the highway department that says, "Bridge ahead washed out! Detour!" we don't say, "It's just the road workers. They're just trying to scare us". Many times we put much more trust in erring, weak and fallible human beings than we do the Creator of the universe Who has proven He loves us more than life itself. "As it is written, Behold I am laying in Zion a Stone that will make men stumble, a Rock that will make them fall; but he who believes in Him [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Him] shall not be put to shame nor be disappointed in his expectations." Romans 9:33 AMP "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." 1 John 4:18 NKJV Blessings! Moderators Bravus Posted December 12, 2008 Moderators Posted December 12, 2008 That message makes sense in one direction, but the fable of the boy who cried 'wolf!' makes sense in the other. That is, there are authentic warnings of real dangers, and then there's jumping at shadows. Claiming that all drama, including that produced by the church, is morally wrong and sinful is, IMO, in the latter category. Warning that much of what is on television is morally wrong and sinful, on the other hand, is in the former. Some discernment is required. Quote Truth is important
Lineman Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I was kind of thinking along the same line. Are you talking about the warnings of Jesus telling us of the end times? One thing I that keeps coming to mind as we have talked about this is what Jesus told us in Matthew 24 Quote: 4Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,[a]' and will deceive many. 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains. I know that I have been guilty of being concerned about this financial crisis as being the beginning of the very last days, but it dawned on me that in the quote above Jesus warned us that when we hear of "wars and rumors of wars" the end is not yet and we are not to be alarmed. Are you seeing this crisis we are in as being a warning sign? Quote Visit and Share the BibleTimelines.com URL ! (Explain the Gospel in just a few minutes, or maybe even seconds.)
Beryl Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I paid a visit to my hairdresser on thursday, and, as normal, while he expertly snipped away, he was also chatting about everyday events -- which, of course, included the disparity between the rich and the poor. The comments were brought about by our current Prime Minister who, in his first budget, (early this year) gave consessions to those on top incomes, a bit less concessions to the next levels down, etc -- but absolutely NOTHING for the pensioners --he has appointed someone to "really do this properly", and check out how much a pensioner really needs -- and NO RISE for pensioners until this report is final! With the global money upheaval there are pensioners who just do not have the money to pay their rapidly rising rents AND purchase enough food! Anyway, in a "gesture of concern"(?)we were, this week, given a lump sum which was about equal to the total (May to December) of what we SHOULD have received over the weeks we have been left to survive on the little that we actually got. And then he had the audacity to come on radio and TV and remind people that he did not give that ($1400) to us for us to put in our banks, but to SPEND! SPEND! SPEND! GO OUT AND BUY! If we are "dinkum Aussies" we will realise that there has been a downturn in sales, and so we will go into the shops and spend the lot!! Oh Yes?? Anyway, to get back to the story, as the hairdresser snipped away, and talked about this, a verse began to come to mind -- James ch.5 where it talks about the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. The longer he worked, the "louder" was the impression that I should tell him about those verses. Eventually I sent up a silent prayer, and told the Lord I would do that if He made sure that Frank stopped talking for a moment so I could get a word in! And, yes, that is what happened!! He was very interested. Said he had never read the Bible, but his wife did every day.. He would get her to find the verses for him. Well, I may never know the results, but it just may be that the one reading will arouse his curiosity regarding what else the Bible has to say. Quote: 4Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. Jesus gave the signs that would apply both to the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70, and, once more, to His Second Coming. I believe that in Matthew 24, from verse 21 onwards we have the signs that will point to the second coming. Beryl Quote "Grace is God doing for us, in us and through us that which He requires of us but which is impossible for us to do in or for ourselves." But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Cor. 12:9.
LifeHiscost Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 HEY LIFEISCOST we need to stick to the bible truths and keep our mind and eyes on JESUS then we will be ready for HIS RETURN to take us to heaven with HIM as for as the warnings of physical danger on this earth like watch out the bridge is closed if we stay turn to JESUS we will stay tune to the physical danger warnings of this earth dgrimm60 You make a good point, dgrimm60, especially the underlined. My question was looking for a good reason why some find it easy to figure God's revealed cautions as unworthy of attention while finding it easy to accept what men say is to be believed. Judging from the responses there doesn't seem to be any good recognizable reasons. Bravus made a good point about the way one might believe if they have little faith that the Word has a specific message to bear. "And we also [especially] thank God continually for this, that when you received the message of God [which you heard] from us, you welcomed it not as the word of [mere] men, but as it truly is, the Word of God, which is effectually at work in you who believe [ exercising its superhuman power in those who adhere to and trust in and rely on it]." 1 Thessalonians 2:13 AMP Brackets theirs LHC Merry Christmas!
